According to early benchmarks, Intel’s new Medfield mobile platform could be a very serious contender in the phone market.

The new CPU managed to outpace Google’s flagship Galaxy Nexus, powered by a dual-core TI OMAP chip. It also ends up faster than Apple’s A5 and comes in a very close second to the Asus Transformer Prime, powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 3 quad-core.

Dont see how thats mind blowing?
The new A5X cpu already destroys Tegra 3 by a significant margin, if Medfield comes a "close second" thats not exactly impressive....

Not in CPU intensive tasks. Tegra 3 is a quad-core A9, A5X is a dual-core A9.

Fixed. The problem with Intel is that they are eternally 1 step behind in the smartphone race. Intel shows off its latest chip which beats out anything on the market, and before they have a chance to ship the next wave of ARM devices comes out and craps all over it.

We're never going to see the Z2640 in a phone, because it can't even beat out a chip that already loses badly one arriving in phones next month.

The only plus that comes out of this is that as long as Intel thinks it can release a phone they will keep contributing code to Android.

They're already on 22nm with Tri Gate. It won't take them long to catch up. Keep in mind this is their first foray into the mobile space and it's in the form of a recycled Atom core.

OMAP's are not that impressive.

Show us how it compares to Krait, then we'll talk.

what about GPU and battery?

one of the biggest advantage of nexus is the ICS, I suspect the speed you noticed came from that? were you using stock rom for the S2?

cuz I mean if you compare the 2 phones in terms of hardware, how much advantage does the nexus really have? are there any at all?

I don't know man, if you would just take a look at what they've already announced so far for the S3, you could immediately tell that they didnt try their best in making nexus
