1680 X1050 comparision on DVI cables and VGA

I have two 22" Gateway monitors (FPD2185W) and they have vga and DVI inputs. My question is when I plug in my vga cord I can select my native resoloution of 1680X1050 but the problem is when I use a DVI cord the screen image gets brighter but the length on my screen gets a lot longer which requires me to scroll the screen by dragging the mouse. Both screens are set up in 1680X1050 Res but the VGA looks way better than the DVI input and it is displaying properly.
Is it a setting in my bios or hardware that is causing this problem?

I have a Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 - I know it's old but it has a vga and dvi output so I would like to get my dvi output to my native resoloution without having to scroll around on my screen

*currently I have my dvi resoloution to 1280X1050 and there is no screen scrolling but the image is nothing to be excited about.

Are you saying that DVI isn't scaling to the size of the screen properly? You may need to adjust this in nVidia's control panel. If possible, I would always use DVI / any digital signal over an analog one.

That is exactly what I am saying, but when I use Nvidias scaling options no matter what I put it on it doesn't scale properly? why is that?
