For Amd the question is where is the 7990 that dozens of reliable sources said was coming out in Q1. March is almost half over and still no word.

Maybe Nvidia dropped the prise of a gtx580 not because gtx 680 or whatever is comming out,but because a slightly o/c 7870 can perform on par with it at 100 dollars less!! biggrin.gif

I believe the 7870 is between the 570 and 580 in perfomance taking OC'ing into consideration.

The 570 is now being listed for $320 and the 580 as low as $418 on Newegg.

Though I would agree the reason for price drop recently is most likely to get some price / performance purchases and possibly slight chance the preperation for Kepler being around the corner. Hopefully by the end of the month as the rumor mill has been predicting.

Interesting. On the very same website, I see the cheapest GTX 580 priced at $530. The very 3gb model that now competes with the 7950 which is priced up to $80 less than the GTX 580.

The 1.5 GB version vs the 3GB version on a single monitor 1920x1200 resolution or less is a few FPS. VRAM doesn't' help between these two so I was comparing it to the 1.5GB and pricing / performance.

I could show you tons of game benches from multiple tech site that shows a 1.2GB vs 2GB wher the extra VRAM doesn't give any gains. Like the 560Ti 448 vs a 6950.

VRAM really shows it's worth in multiple monitors but almost no gains on single 1920x1200 res or less.

Yup. Definitively. Each persons reason for which GPU vary based on their set up / needs out of them. So for some the comparison would be true if comparing 3GB vs 3GB for multiple monitors. Just seemed that previous statement was a blanket statement is why I interjected and explained what I meant.

AMD has always done multiple monitors better, like Nvidia 3D Vision has done better.

For single monitors either really does a great job and in all honesty no wrong choice. What we quibble a lot about is not much if the purchase one makes is going to game for them and get the FPS required to do it. A lot of the debates here is more of a pissing contest that holds little weight when we log off OCN and actually game if the set up we have is doing it's job. smile.gif

So NDA lifts a day before the cards are released? I guess NVIDIA really did go with a hard launch only. I can't wait!
