[Geek] A “real” user proves Windows 8 fails on the desktop

With the release of Windows 8, Microsoft is attempting to change the way we interact with its operating system by introducing the Metro interface. The problem is, they aren’t just stopping at pasting a touch-friendly experience over the top of the more familiar Windows desktop. Microsoft has also broken the classic desktop experience in the process.

The main issue? By default the Start button has disappeared. Anyone using the Windows 8 Consumer Preview (check out our 5 days with Windows 8 feature) is either figuring out how to work around that, or Googling to find out how to re-enable it.

Source

We already knew this, but maybe Microsoft will take note and fix this grotesque flaw in design, seriously... *crosses fingers*

@ 0:53 in the video the guy says, "You could spend all day trying to find something in this thing." That's pretty much how I felt when I first used the OS, it's pretty annoying, definitely...

Creating an interface is creating a visual language people need to learn. People want to use it, not learn it. They already spent time learning it when you changed it last time. They did this with their Office suite and no one knows how to use 2003 vs 2007 vs 2010.

Keep your good ideas and improve upon them instead of offering such drastic changes.

no start menu. Sorry but i'm staying windows 7.

Windows 8 will be just like vista.. a crappy OS. Most kept XP, then switched to 7. Now people will stay on 7 ans skip 8. I hope so hahaha.

I may use it for my HTPC but no way for my main rig.

Windows 7 = Windows Vista SP2.

Vista isn't as crappy as many were led to believe, it takes a bit of tweaking to get right.

It's more suitable to compare Windows 8 to Windows ME.

Sorry but it isn't that hard to use and it doesn't take hours. If any thing it take less time. My mom would find this easier then windows 7 and she would be a real user so world my bro as well my aunts. One guy doesn't equal the every one, just because he had a hard time using it. Do not mean every normal user will. He doesn't prove any thing other then hes having issues with the interface. You guys just making it seem harder then what it really is,

If you guys hate it so much then stick to windows 7 and vista, no one is forcing you to upgrade to it at gun point, some of you guys wanted change and improvements, but when they do it. You guys moan and complain that it isn't in the vision you see fit. Where your vision would make it harder for the normal user. The desktop is still there just click on it and go to it problem solve, so what no windows task bar get over it, or use that 3rd party program vstart to get it back. Some of you guys said your gonna skip it and never use it, I seen a lot of people said the same thing about not using windows 7 because of it wasn't different then windows vista(pre SP2) other then running better and more tweaked. Yet most of those same people went to windows 7 any way.

I swear people of this generation is spoiled little brats that go on a hissy fit if something isn't done there way..

Lies! The ribbon is awesome!

Honestly I would be happy enough to see the start button re-appear, rather than needing to move to the corner. Other than that I'm fine with the metro UI.
