MS Office wasn't moving forward it was indicative to some jerk taking your program and making scrambled eggs out of it! I mean dang, you don't even have the main menu any more, my point is, why not please both users? The new and the old that is...
It would have been better for MS to make a Dock rather than leave the Taskbar in there, at least you could have moved the dock around, I prefer the dock in the center, but Windows has always been a left/right/upper/lower position taskbar... They aren't moving forward they are forcing obnoxious changes which disconnect even the new user, and that is very bad...

Of course, the short-term costs does include productivity loss and retraining costs.

What do you mean there is no "main menu" anymore? Attempting to please both old and new can be hard if you are forced to support legacy components.
Once again...

Vista isn't as crappy as many were led to believe, it takes a bit of tweaking to get right.
It's more suitable to compare Windows 8 to Windows ME.

I know, Whats with the hate except higher memory usage that gamers dont suffer from.

Plus its not hard to disable UAC thats used in 7 anyway that people always moan about

A lot of people in this thread sound more like the "regular" users rather than the power users they're supposed to be smile.gif

16 years with a start menu (essentially a collection of shortcuts)...! It's high time for change

His dad is hilarious... but this is what happens when they force such draconian changes in such a short space of time.

i normally dont su^pport pirlllo (son)views!but he made an insanelly good point!if a the golden age cannot find a thing as mondane as internet explorer or whatever browser you can think of!i am pretty sure the person wont get out of the store with a w8!and if i was the salesman i wouldnt take the chance either cause i would have to sell her or him another product in 4 year and i probably wouldnt see him or her again after suck an experience!

they will need to go in golden age hospice wityh w8 and ask older folks what they would do to it!cause they will have a different perspective on this then the techno savy people of 18 years old!

but this isnt a big issue !cause they can add this very easilly live tile is here to stay ,the hybrid stuff probably not cause it confuse more then help it will probably be an optional classic download that wont be in w8 by default to make people dont get confused!i sure hope they put hideable bar like the bottom actual one but all around the screen to make it simpler for average user!

LOL, Microsoft will have millions of people like this guy's dad having exactly the same problem.

They really need to bring back the Start Menu or else this Windows 8 will be an even worse catastrophe than Windows Vista and no Mohave experience re-enacted is going to save it. I mean, people who were on XP still managed to stay with their OS even though many had to migrate from single core machines, now imagine people that have quad core and six core machines, LOL, most people who already skip an OS generation will skip this one even more.

And now the disclaimer: No, I'm not a spolied young man, or an old man averse to change either. I used Windows 95 Final Beta release months before the final version came out and I couldn't go back to Windows 3.1; I also ran Windows 7 Beta and then the RC in a dual boot configuration alongside Windows XP and it felt like a breath of fresh air compared to Windows Vista, which is on my laptop. I don't mind Vista, honestly, although it keeps trashing the HDD (the laptop has 4 GB of RAM), it's just that from a usability point of view it's not as intuitive and doesn't have as many ease of use functionalities as Windows 7.

Honestly now, Windows 8 was designed with tablets and smartphones in mind. Even the basic color scheme without transparencies looks like an attempt to get better battery life on Windows Phone powered phones than the competition.

And then you have the fullscreen Metro interface, and Microsoft comes up with all sorts of ridiculous excuses trying to justify it on the desktop too like "you'll be more productive if you're only working with one application." when desktop and laptops are supposed to be about multitasking. Whatever. I mean, they ditched the Windows XP start menu because when you had too many programs it used up a lot of screen real estate, now they are saying that Windows 7 style is too small and you need more space, hence the fullscreen. LOL Really, they couldn't be more incoherent if they tried. I know one thing, I could find my programs and all auxiliary programs / help files in their respective program folders just using the mouse on both Windows XP and Windows 7. Now I have to use the keyboard too to do it with Windows 8. How is this going forward ? Metro is designed to let people work with Windows on a touchscreen device using only one hand, but on a desktop / laptop it makes you go backwards by forcing you to use both hands.
