[Geek] A “real” user proves Windows 8 fails on the desktop - Page 42

I'm typing this using Windows 8 Server Beta, I installed it being Datacenter with GUI.

Man this Metro BS has got to go, bottom line.

Metro is CLUNKY, has NO use in servers or desktops.

Geeeez when will they come to the sense of reality and go "Oh ye, forgot this is a touchscreen tablet GUI not a Desktop or Server GUI"

The guts of the OS are good, the User Interface is COMPLETE GARBAGE !!!!

There is no Xbox 360 emulator. All there is an Xbox Live app store (rebranded GFWL Marketplace) and being able to turn on your Xbox 360 console from your computer through the network. I suppose a tablet running Windows 8 can be some sort of network remote control?

It would make no sense financially for Microsoft to write a 360 emulator for PC. Microsoft makes money on licensing games on 360 and selling the entire 360 console ecosystem (hardware, peripherals, games, software, service fees, etc.). Microsoft is trying to kill the desktop not support it.

Windows 8 Server has the same poor metro UI. It just defaults to the desktop at startup and Start Screen. frown.gif Some people run W8 Server in console mode only (no GUI) so that will not matter for those admins. W8 Server will not benefit you from trying to turn it into a workstation OS without Metro.

Yes, running with no GUI would be fine, or using a remote to utilize the server would be fine, but for a person that wants a GUI for direct access...FAIL

I had no interest of running the server edition as a desktop OS, I did want to see how they had 'crapified' Win 8 Server, which they did, which is their loss.

Having just (finally) installed W8 preview about 8 minutes ago - I'm already done.

I'm posting this followed by an immediate wipe back to Win7. Apart from the absolutely brutal installation (sign in with an email, provide a phone number, etc etc I DONT WANT TO SIGN IN THANKS) this is by far the worst desktop UI I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Good luck getting people to use this, Microsoft...

You know you could just select "local user" and you didn't need to give all that info and its identical to other windows.
That whole mess you did was just for syncing different computers as far as i know.

Hm, that may be true. I don't recall seeing that, but I did rush through it - I just wanted to get to the metro UI.

The rest of my opinion stands though, I'm already back to Win7.
