[Geek] A “real” user proves Windows 8 fails on the desktop - Page 6

it does need a better search system for high res screens. Separating things into categories "apps, settings, files" is not an efficient use of screen real estate. The older search menu displayed all 3 of those categories at once (separated via headers).

Other than that, there really isn't an issue, but I feel the control panel should be easier to access, and have all the features the metro control panel has (and vice versa).

I dont see why people are over-reacting so much. With a few extra clicks u can see every item that would normally be on the start menu. I have been using the cp version since release and the only problem im having are software related which is expected.

16 years with a start menu (essentially a collection of shortcuts)...! It's high time for change

Change doesn't mean better.

Besides, all your things in Windows 8 Desktop are still shortcuts...and...*essentially*...all "pinned" Metro things are...are shortcuts. wink.gif

Sorry. If I wanted modernized design, I'd go to an art gallery and look around. It's a lot cheaper than upgrading.

by the way guys!any doubptin live tile doesnt know what they re talking about!it is still in alpha testing so it will get tweaked!but any having a touchscreen trying this techno will be like now this is what i am talking about!
i saw a guy with a screen as a table surface ya the desktop was on the screen used as a desk and a regular screen was on it and men it was so perfect i dont know why anybody hasnt done it yet!

there will be tile on the main screen for all main stuff!like window defender ie 10 etc!and once in you ll have more option !trust me in the long term when it is all said and done, all os will want these!and in any you ll get live feed !so say you are in window defender .it will show in real time what microsoft security essential is doing, same for malicious software removal tool,or ie10 security or firewall!etc etc etc!you wont need to go in there. so no dont sweat it guys !you ll only wonder how you could have done computer without it !(within 12 month of lunch of w8 i predict!)

I'm not afraid of change, I'll be getting this day 1. Watch how many problems I won't have as I adapt to the new system. Yeah, I'm going to have to learn but I'll be moving forward and embrace change while most of you will stick to 7 like you did XP. I personally had 0 problems with Vista outside of the ones that were my fault. I in fact I had to upgrade to SP1 before I could upgrade to Win 7 otherwise I wasn't able to install it. I bet half of you guys never tried Vista or never gave it a fair chance because you had to God forbid go to a companies website to download the latest drivers.

TL:DR Change happens, get over it and adapt.

I like Windows 8.

This.

Also, the people comparing Windows 8 to ME are clueless. ME was terrible because it was a buggy piece of crap... not because it was innovative and people were too set in their ways to accept it.

Exactly, and tbh, once you set your PC settings (which are now saved in the cloud so you never need to change them again) just launch the desktop app and voila, Windows 7 but better. And sleep mode is far better now, it actually works and saves much more energy, it's very well optimized now.

So no need to restart unless system update.

Do not mean every normal user will. He doesn't prove any thing other then hes having issues with the interface. You guys just making it seem harder then what it really is,
If you guys hate it so much then stick to windows 7 and vista, no one is forcing you to upgrade to it at gun point, some of you guys wanted change and improvements, but when they do it. You guys moan and complain that it isn't in the vision you see fit. Where your vision would make it harder for the normal user. The desktop is still there just click on it and go to it problem solve, so what no windows task bar get over it, or use that 3rd party program vstart to get it back. Some of you guys said your gonna skip it and never use it, I seen a lot of people said the same thing about not using windows 7 because of it wasn't different then windows vista(pre SP2) other then running better and more tweaked. Yet most of those same people went to windows 7 any way.
I swear people of this generation is spoiled little brats that go on a hissy fit if something isn't done there way..

Holy, fragments o'plenty! Grammar is your friend.

On topic, no real news here. It is blatantly obvious to anyone who tries to use Windows 8 that it is not geared towards desktop productivity, at least not in its current incarnation. I still believe that Microsoft will include the "classic" Start Menu in the final release and that they are simply forcing Metro UI on everyone now in order to get an adequate tester response and feedback. After all, how many people would try Metro UI now if they had the option to switch to the classic L&F? Probably very few users would bother to try Metro UI.
