Just finished installing the Consumer Preview on my Laptop. Oh boy, this is even more of a mess than the Developer Preview.
Trying to use the Metro interface with a touchpad is even more of a nightmare than with a mouse. What were they thinking lol.
And there is too much white, and too much fullscreen madness, too much incoherency in all of this. This is not even half-baked, it's purely experimental Alpha (thank goodness they at least formally recognize it by calling it a preview). I went to the control panel - that too much white (power saving on tablets since white is when the pixels are not filtering any of the backlight), oversimplified fullscreen thing that doesn't let you see what is happening on the desktop, and there were some updates to be installed. There was a list of updates I couldn't click on, if I wanted, I had to click on the link to go the the old style window - back to the desktop.
(Why doesn't the Escape key work to get out of the store or the calendar, or the weather, or etc ? Yes, use the Windows key, right. You can't escape from that. lol)
And searching for UAC, stilll shows that they haven't learned a thing from the developer preview. LOL
"Apps Results for "uac" No apps match your search"
I have to click on the Settings category and then click on the "Change User Account Control Settings" to do what I can do much faster with Windows 7, which puts the UAC as the first result (and puts categories all in a scrollable fashion), I just have to hit "Enter". Not to mention it's much clunkier to get to search in the first place.
Did they get rid of the show desktop button in the bottom right corner so they could fit that ridiculous menu so you can get to the search functions, among other things that were on the Start Menu ? Edit: No, they didn't, but it's invisible now LOL. And because putting the mouse in the corner makes a menu appear, it didn't occur to me that I could click on a non button to make the desktop appear. LOL Of course, the functionality to make the desktop appear temporarily is gone.
As someone said previously in another thread, this is Metro glued together with Windows 7.5. And the glue is very low quality, I might add.
