I always thought it would be cool to be cremated and and have your carbon remains turned into a diamond. It would have so much more meaning than just being buried or cremated and put in a glorified flower vase.

I don't know if it is even possible, but that would be awesome.

It gives Family Jewels a whole new meaning.

Win! biggrin.gif

Indeed this entire thread is full of win.. biggrin.gif

Sorry couldn't get back sooner, got tied up for 4 days...

(Wasn't trying to necro ninja bump, seriously)

They can be made into semiconductors, though most natural diamonds aren't.

Ah, the beauty of material fabrication.

Any application that now uses glass but would be improved by a stronger and more scratch resistant surface could benefit from this.
Just imagine buying a nice pair of sunglasses and never having to worry about scratching em. Tossed em on the hood of your car and they slipped off and fell to the ground? Doesn't matter. Put em on the dash and they flipped up and slid across to the other side? Doesn't matter. Riding a quad and got splashed in the face covering em with mud? Doesn't matter. They're made of freaking diamond! heh
The future will be cool. Wish I could see more then my natural span.

Dude, it doesn't matter how indestructible a material can be, as soon as it is transformed into an object that is required to stay scratch proof, it WILL pick up a scratch from the tiniest, most pathetic impact.

That there, is a disregarded law of 'in your face glasses wearers' mad.gif

Diamond can't be easily scratched bro as it is the hardest material in the world, you have to try so hard to get it scratched.
It won't gonna get scratched even when you apply an impact force to it,
it may chip or shatter though if the impact force is strong enough

NOBODY TELL WOMEN ABOUT THIS PLEASE.

All men should get a giant diamond for their girls and not tell them it costs almost nothing. Think of it. Now all we need to do is make things taste like chocolate and we have utopia.
The largest weight it can have is 1 carat, so it's not really worth it.

EDIT: Nevermind, it IS possible to grow 25 carat diamonds in labs, but due to their cost, the growth is stopped at 1 or 1.5 carat.

Yeah, growing diamonds is expensive. You can grow to any size, it just becomes difficult and extremely expensive at the larger sizes. They had an episode of "bang goes the theory" that talked about this, guy grew his own diamond. The best part is you can do custom ones with this, add impurities to alter the properties and how the diamond reacts. You can make them glow with different conditions, all sorts of fun things are being done.
