Mass Effect 3 has integrated SecuROM DRM into Origin?

What else is there to say? EA missed the part where they are directly using a SecuROM capability in its release date checking portion of their game activation service. They're great at covering their legal liabilities with a 22,000 word treatise on gamer's rights and responsibilities. To top it off, EA's customer service is driven by inaccurate solutions modelled under an issue-centric system of dealing with customer and technical support.

If people want to confirm this, all they have to do is look through their folders to find a file within /AppData/Local/Temp/mtka_tmp/ and see a file which is clearly linked to Sony DADC.

For those who own the game, you can look into /AppData/Local/Temp/ to find the mtka_tmp folder once you've installed Mass Effect 3 and have it re-authenticated again. The files related to SecuROM's release date checker will be there, as was the case when we had first looked at Dragon Age 2 and many other SecuROM-related games.

EA said Dragon Age 2 did not have SecuROM DRM but it did. Is this the same situation with Mass Effect 3? Did Bioware lie again by saying Origin is non-intrusive, including the day 1 DLC found on the Xbox 360 disc?

How else were they going to prevent players from playing the game early while also offering the ability to pre-load? I'm not encouraging these shenanigans but what other alternative is there, the honor system? rolleyes.gif
