Intel and AMD

Thread Starter
I know nothing about Intel really, at all, so I'm posting here. AMD's 64 3700+ is a little less than 100 dollars. Is there an INTEL chip that is no more than 115ish, that can perform as well, or better than that card? I'm looking into upgrading, and I want to get the best I can get, whether it be intel, or amd.

Is your mobo socket 939? if so, you won't need to change it if you want to upgrade to a 3700+, and X2 Athlon too (might be a good idea to upgrade to dual core if you can).

EDIT: here's a link to a similar thread

No, i have a 754 socket, so I have to upgrade motherboard, along with CPU. The purpose of this thread was to see if theres an INTEL cpu with will perform as well or better, for the same price( or cheaper ) Since I don't know anyhting about intels at all really.

Dish out the $180 for an E6300 C2D and $130 for a new mobo. It will serve you very well...

And if you don't want to spend that much, you can get a PD 805 with a new mobo and overclock it to some decent speeds (3.5-4.0Ghz) and it's a dual core. They are <$90 on newegg now and a new mobo for one of the older LGA775 cpu's would run you ~$100.

In short the answer is no.. The cheapest chip intell has that will outperform a 3700 is the 6300 which is $189 , not to mention a few hundred for a decent motherboard and another few hundred for ddr2 memory. Bang for the buck would be a 939 motherboard and 3700.

off topic :kidwolf i have about $600 into my rig and all of my benchies beat yours , so i guess i can beat ya

The best budget Intel CPU at stock would be the Core 2 Duo E6300 but thats around $180.

Theres also the Pentium D 805 which is the cheapest dual core on the market at $90, but youll need to overclock it to get any good performance out of it.
