Whether any of apple's patents have been infringed upon is another story, but I'm sure we'll hear about that soon, no doubt...

I don't mean to be rude, but have you actually SEEN an asus Zenbook next to a MBA? 400

I mean, yeah, they both have keyboards, screens, some ports on the side, a track pad, and a tapered design. If that is what constitutes 'identical' then you must have an aneurysm when looking at TV's/monitors/cars

Where did I ever say they were identical?

In fact, I said that they look similar, but I also said that given that we only have a limited realistic set of options given the same hardware available to all computers, that it's only natural that designs resemble each other.

Not really sure what you're going on about.

edit--And why is it anytime someone says, "I don't mean to be rude," they actually do mean to be rude? Just like saying, "I'm not one to judge, but..." Or, "No offense, but..." If you want to be rude, then just be rude and say what you want. I don't care.

Ladouche, it's ok, salokin is obviously an Apple hater. It's blatantly obvious from his other posts that he hates Apple with a passion and everyone else who mouths a word favoring Apple.

Douche, I sell these things every single day...you honestly have to be blind to mistake the Zenbook with a MBA . It stands slightly bit higher than the MBA, it has different connection ports when you look at it from the side. Yes they both are thin, the same reason why most monitors and TV's look the same actually. It's a laptop design, you have very limited options when you want to make it as thin as possible.

So salokin, looking at that pic, you still believe that the Zenbook, to quote your words, "looks absolutely NOTHING like the MBA"?

I can't speak for salokin, as I don't know him. But if you have ever engineered or designed something then you would understand that at a certain point things will start looking the same with only slight variations.

I won't go as far as saying that it looks nothing like a MBA, but they have differences...just like cars, planes, bikes, tvs,cd players, wallets, etc, etc.

Look dude, I'm not saying that the Air and Zenbook look the identical. They look similar, much like how Macbooks took on the look that Sony Vaio's were using for a long time. Much like how the Samsung galaxy tab resembles the iPad, much like how virtually any similar device resembles all other similar devices within the same market segment. The Zenbook looks similar to the MBA. The MBA looks similar to the Zenbook. They have the same keyboard minus the space bar row having one more key on the Zenbook for the love of god. They have the same footprint and form-factor. It would be virtually impossible to say they do not look similar.

I don't understand why looking similar implies something bad. confused.gif

I said this at least twice earlier.

I agree wsnnwa, that this may simply be the end result of form following function, that this design maybe the only possible way to engineer and optimize thin laptop of this size.

If it's just the exterior being similar in both appearance and material with the aluminium unibody, I wouldn't care so much.. but the internal design of Zenbook is also very much identical to that of MBA; exact placement of batteries with speakers on both sides, exact placement and size of cooling fan, SSD mounted at the exact same spots between CPU and battery.

Now you have two laptops looking nearly identical on the outside and inside. Pushing it to say that the ASUS Zenbook is innocent?
