Just because they're walking and telling a story doesn't mean they're primitive. It's very possible new relays were built. It's very possible all the races made it home. We simply don't know. We simply WON'T know unless something more is released.

Fair enough. But when the old man answers the question about travelling the stars; I assume that implies that they still are not (although yes, I realize this could be interpreted as the boy specifically, but I don't see it that way).

Also, looking up stuff on the stargazer, someone on the BSN brought up an interesting point:
Quote:
1. The Normandy crash lands on a planet that features a similar planet and moon in the sky, implying that the Stargazer and the Child could be descendants of the Normandy survivors. This is very important!

2. The Normandy and the crew - survivors of the crucible - lose all contact with Commander Shepard when the beam strikes him in London. This means that they _cannot_ know what happened to Shepard if he or she actually did indeed make it onto the Citadel.

3. The Normandy fled the Sol system for an unknown reason (as of now) before being stranded on the jungle planet. Because this confrism that your squadmates were not left on London dead in the streets in the final push, this implies that they regained consciousness and radioed for help from the Normandy, which then picked them up prior to the apparent destruction of the relays. This reinforces their inability to know what Shepard experienced on the Citadel and the choice Shepard made.

4. With the above three points in mind, every moment after Shepard is struck by the beam is fiction crafted by the Stargazer.

All three endings are fiction.

Assuming this isn't just a plot hole, it's then possible that Shepard was just presumed dead since he was never heard from again. Then again, if you believe this, then what do you believe about what you actually played (ie. was the last bit "fake")? Do you then have to believe that the entire ME trilogy is just being told as a story?

And actually, as mentioned on that thread, Shepard talks to Hackett just before being lifted up, so really it's the final talk and decision that's potentially unknown.

And I have that (sad) song stuck in my head, and it's making me sad/depressed frown.gif.

Not true Hackett messaged me saying the crucible was not working and had to be something inside the citadel

Ok, I've been doing some reading around the interwebz. One guy offered a really interesting scenario.

As we all know, the game really goes into weirdo mode and stops making sense after Harbinger jacks you up while you're running for the relay.

What if... We didn't actually see the ending. Think about this, because it does actually seem plausible.

You get hit with the beam and are knocked unconscious. Everything after that is taking place in your mind. Possibly an attempt at indoctrination by Harbinger? It seems possible, with the appearance of the boy that has been haunting your dreams. It's said that attempts to indoctrinate Shepard fail, for whatever the reason. Perhaps Harbinger is trying to lead you into it unknowingly? You are offered the choice to join the reapers or merge organic and synthetic life. You join/control the reapers, you've given in. You choose to merge... What are the reapers? A merger of organic and synthetic life. As EDI describes them, an organic construct. This option also results in you giving in to the reapers.

However, if you had enough points and destroyed the reapers. Everything ends with one final scene. The shot of the armor suddenly taking a deep breath. If you chose to destroy the reapers, you refused to give in TO the reapers, thus refusing indoctrination. The breath you see Shepard draw is not a breath drawn on the Citadel after the decision... It's the breath you draw back on Earth. Now it's time to possibly face Harbinger and defeat the Reapers for real?

It's kind of a stretch, but it sounds like it could certainly be possible. It sounds right down EA's alley too, with the need for another $10 DLC to see the ACTUAL ending to the series.

There are some good theories going around but in a way i think it's clutching at straws at this point, i can't imagine even Bioware purposely leaving the real ending out just to add it somewhere down the line, this was meant to be it, the end of the trilogy, end of the line, however (and i don't think this will happen) if Bioware do decide to provide an alternative ending this is certainly a good opening to do it through.

Think about it. This is the end to something epic. It's the end of their friggin baby. What if they really did just pull a mind ****, and we're all thinking OH MY GOD THEY RUINED THE ENDING.... And a couple months down the road, SURPRISE! WE GOT YOU ALL!

I'd be pissed and happy at the same time. How does that work.

They're hardly going to give it away for free though, are they? It would be utterly cynical to take the real ending away from the last game in a trilogy and then charge extra for it a few months later.

However many people have already said they'd pay for a different ending, which would play right into their hands, but again, despite the day one DLC malarky i can't imagine them withholding the real ending for more money down the line, it would be an all time low even by EA's standards.

At the moment i think it's just wishful thinking from people who are (rightfully) dissapointed at what happened in the last 15 minutes, i'd prefer a different ending also but i simply cannot see it happening unless they release an expansion pack in the future for example and throw it in with that.

I like it when endings actually make sense. Not some "that ending sucked so much ass, there must be something deeper" type BS. I shouldn't need the goddamn Prothean cipher to understand the effing ending mad.gifmad.gif

Well, Arrival was kind of ME2's real ending, in a way. I mean, sure it wasn't really the end of the collector thing that ME2 was all about, but it was a very important part of the overall ME story that they made pay-only.

Really, EA always breaks new ground in shafting their customers. Yeah, right now it's unthinkable to do such an underhanded thing, but never doubt EA.

@ramkatral...I think you should post that idea everywhere, and maybe someone at EA would read it and actually make it happen. Would be a win/win for gamer and for EA financially/PR wise.

IMO, the ending was either a budget/time decision, an executive's decision who never actually played the entire trilogy (since anyone who actually played it wouldn't choose to end it that way), or a deluded ego who thought if it doesnt make sense others may interpret brilliance.

It's actually all OVER the forums. There's indepth explanations. Google it. It makes sense. Think about this:

Your squadmates are gone. You see Anderson get blasted by Harbinger. You get blasted. You wake up with a gun with infinite ammo that kills everything with one shot.

Fast forward to the Citadel. Anderson is there. Everything is just... off. Nothing makes sense. It's presented as a renegade choice to shoot TIM and save Anderson. Huh? The starchild crap makes no sense. The option presented to control the reapers (Which was The Illusive Man's choice "Renegade), is presented as the blue choice. The option to destroy the reapers (Anderson's choice "Paragon") was presented as the red choice. The star child also made sure to mention that all artificial life would be destroyed, including the Geth, EDI, and you. If you choose to destroy all artificial life, which as stated before includes you, and you have the right amount of readiness... You are shown to be alive at the end. Huh? Also, when you take the breath at the end to show you're alive... There's rubble everywhere. There wasn't rubble on the citadel. Also, the citadel was obliterated by the blast. Wouldn't you have been obliterated?

There's just too many inconsistencies with the ending. Think about it. The entire rest of the game was phenomenal. Everything was put together so well. The characters were played out fantastically. The missions were not repetitive AT ALL. Then suddenly this happens? I just don't think Bioware's writers are that incompetent to ruin their entire trilogy with that ending.
