[Tech Eye] Intel's Ivy Bridge specs leaked - Page 8

I don't think that this chip will have THAT much trouble on air. That would mean ridiculous pains for chips to get binned at good speeds. Or at least Intel won't have the comfortable margin they did on Sandy Bridge.

Oh, well. That is what comes of Intel stealing our nanometers, I guess. ph34r-smiley.gif

Triple gating is the biggest change to ever happen to transistors since their conception. Some hiccups are to be expected, especially given the new manufacturing process. My take is that Haswell will bring about true low-power parts and much better over clocking because of the major stepping revisions.

If you look back on history, 32nm Westmere didn't offer significantly better over clocking than 45nm Nehalem despite being on cutting edge manufacturing processes. It wasn't until 32nm Sandy Bridge that we saw a big gain in over clocking headroom. I suspect the same is true for Haswell.

This would mean that one would assume more salt would make it more bearable.

I don't care about an age old explanation for the expression. The explanation I mentioned is what it means right now. thumb.gif

Poor web development is poor. smile.gif Give em a break though.

You all heard it here first.

Good thing the AMD fan base didn't go this route with Bulldozer's release. lachen.gif

i get how more transistors are packed together but Intel usually has their CPUs running cooler after each generation right?

Yes.
And now that I had a few minutes I read through Tech Eye's source more (I am sure some of you have ,its a interesting thread):

Notice the first post here though:

He has a very good point- this may just be a heat transmission issue... or (as many other said) a software issue.

The guy said his HSF was not hot... he could touch it- which screams user error at me...

Sorry for the hype- but great discussion here thanks .... I am going to wait out for IB still.

When it was idling, having a fag outside the building, at 4.8GHz, the voltage required was 0.94V, and under load it only jumped to 1.31V.

My sick mind is at work once again. lachen.gif
