power supply upside down?

Thread Starter
Is it bad to have a power supply with the fan facing upside down against the metal? I want to do cable management in my antec 900 and i don't have the equipment to drill holes in the bottom for the fan. Any feed back would be great! redface.gif

Wouldn't recommend it if there is no gap between the psu and the case. Some case have like a rebate, indentation on the metal, or a space for the air.

As long as it isn't against the metal and stopping the airflow I wouldn't see it hurting too much. As long as it has enough of a gap to draw air in at the bottom and spit it out the back, then you should be fine.

Other than that, it's pretty much the norm in most cases to have it facing down these days. Though, most newer cases come with vents/filters for it.

If that can be done then yeah why not.
Its just to give a little room for the fan to get air and it would probably prevent it from making a noise from sucking against metal too.

I don't recommend it, but a little elevation would help. I did what you are asking and my old Antec TruePower Trio 650 got extremely hot. We're talking 40'sC, it was bad. Flipped it over and it was fine. I'd try a little elevation and check it frequently because mine got that hot within 20 minutes
