We should all just say no to this crap, if you see it from the start call them out on it ... but letting the build and thrive and then try and call them on it is just low and dirty dirty man frown.gif
They should know better in the first place, If I was yahoo, I would do the same thing, lesson learned!

Yes, if you can't understand the simple difference between "your" and "you're", you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a computer.

Another example (a bit different): Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off the horse, and helping your uncle jack off the horse.

While that's funny, who really gives a rats ass? You're and your are often easy to glean from the context.

On topic though - I agree with the guy who said they should have called this in the first place.

Irony! "Wrong grammar" is not grammatical either. The phrase you're looking for is "poor grammar" or "incorrect grammar."

It does matter, to a certain extent. Look around - this forum is built of language and text. Everyone who writes on a public forum should adhere to the conventions of standard written English. Otherwise, the fringes of our little society here gradually degrade into leet/text speak, and most of us can agree that we don't want that.

On the flip side, however, nobody likes a grammar Nazi. My rule of thumb is this: if your grammar is so bad that it inhibits the clarity of your writing, then you need to be schooled. If I can read what you wrote without effort - even if it contains the occasional incorrect usage - then I let it slide. "Wrong grammar" is an example of the latter, but because it's inherently ironic, I felt like being a smart-arse thumb.gif

These lawsuits are getting ridiculous. It's like putting a patent on the door and suing everyone with a house. Or on the wheel and suing everyone with a car or bike. Getting out of control what is being allowed to be patented and then sued over. Every day it seems there's a hoard of new postings about someone suing someone else over patents for simple things such as "slide to unlock." Most people use a metal key to unlock their front door, can I get a patent on it and then sue the entire planet please?

Language es important. Keep in mind not everybody has english as its primary language and, thus, reading the correct words may lead to the use of such words correctly, afterwards. Its hard enough to follow some discussions due to the technical language involved...if we add some typos into the mixture we have a very frustrating beverage!

While Yahoo's timing for initiating a lawsuit over it is very much a tactical strike, this is quite the contrary to the all-too-familiar case of patent trolling. Yahoo's patents in question have been used in other lawsuits against other companies (google, for one, IIRC), and they have won with them. Yahoo had notified Facebook quite some time ago that they were infringing upon them, and even tried to work out a licensing agreement--Facebook declined to give them any attention despite multiple attempts to reach an agreement. Since FB wanted to ignore them and play hardball, yahoo decided to be tactical with their initiation of a lawsuit (which more than likely will succeed if it goes all the way to a judicial decision), and do so after their IPO. IIRC, the patents in question were authored by yahoo, or at least a sub-company within yahoo that actually invented the tech and is actively being used to this day, as opposed to them just buying up IP and using it to go sue everyone, with no intentions of producing anything with it. In the grand scheme of the patent lawsuits we come across these days, this is much more respectable and credible than most.

Plus, the new CEO of Yahoo has to give a show of strength and initiative to actually do something with the company, since Carol Bartz was axed pretty quickly for doing nothing worthwhile.
