how to utilize ramdisk?

Thread Starter
Hey guys I just set up my ramdisk, but how do I utilize it? I want to use it for a game. All the tutorials I've seen are just for internet browsers. Is 4GB going to be enough for a game or should I drop the cash for the full dataram ramdisk program? I have 16GB total and currently 4GB set aside for ramdisk. Thanks!

Get rid of dataram, its useless. Use ImDisk instead.

Otherwise, for almost any game, just copy it into your ramdisk, and start it from the ramdisk. Done. Steam games are a bit harder, but not impossible.

Few games use more then 500mb-1GB while running, with 16GB you should be able to fit everything you need except maybe starcraft II or some other 8gb+ game.

you could try to just load the levels/textures onto the ram disk, and see if that gives you a loading boost, as most modern AAA games are more than 4gb installed.

If you try something like that, you have to play redirect games. The games do not know these things are in a ramdisk, and will never load them from there unless you tell it. Again, with 16GB, you can load almost any game into ramdisk and not have to worry about running out, just dedicate 6-8GB for it.

yes, i had misread his question, I thought 4gb was a physical limitation, not a software one.
