The old revision of blocks should be sold out by now.

I'm confused. I know you are selling the revised design. I was told by a retailer that they weren't sent a revised design to sell. I have no way to check what a retailer is actually selling, so I don't want to order it if I don't know. I also plan to order a 7970 at the same time.

I don't what's what, but I've got six cards here some from mid Jan and all have the one blue cap. Anyways, long story short no clearance issues with my caps or blocks I got from early Jan. thumb.gif

Check with a shim(I used paper). You need to clear the second cap.

hmmm, damn. At least now we know, that is something you could easily spot.
I just ordered a new card and block. Thankfully, I ordered an AMD card, so if it just the partners doing this redface.gif

May have dodged a bullet.

I'm quite disappointed.

I ordered 2 x 7970 full cover blocks back in 10Feb, still sealed in box (EK factory sealed).

On 9March I ordered 2 MSI 7970 cards to be delivered this Thursday 15March. I'm very worried by this.

A support ticket to EK resulted in a shrug of their shoulders. "We prefer the retailer to replace it".

I'm hoping the MSI ones that are delivered will not have this capacitor issue. frown.gif

...Fingers crossed frown.gif

Why do you say that? I thought all 7970's based on reference design had black PCB's

my understanding from a few places is the cap is like 1 to 2 mm taller so it would be nothing for a true modder to dremel that out heck you could actually dremel a cap wide channel the whole length if you wanted as the caps aren't being cooled anyways. But, I don't think its all manufacturers either as I checked my second xfx core edition card which I got a couple weeks ago and all the caps are the same as
my first one.

That's not the point though.

I asked this also at EK. I was told "Unless you are a professional miller ... " . I am planning to post this conversation with EK at some point.

+ wouldn't you risk going to far to cause water leak? or is it not near the water channels

Why so quite on which ones they have already come across. At least under DSR in the UK I can return the MSI ones and swap for another brand frown.gif

You need to be disappointed in the company that you bought your card from, sheesh. This doesn't have anything to do with EK specifically. If an AIB deviates from the reference design, the onus is on them.
