[IGN] Mass Effect 3 review

Quote:
All told, Mass Effect 3 is an absolutely amazing game, one that successfully puts a bow on the Mass Effect trilogy while still leaving us hungry for even more. It looks and plays great, but Mass Effect 3's true strength lies in its ability to tell a deeply-woven story. Better yet, the sheer ambition shown by BioWare in announcing an intersecting trilogy complete with save importation becomes fully realized in Mass Effect 3. BioWare deserves applause for not only having the courage to attempt something like the Mass Effect trilogy, but for pulling it off with such exceptional poise and skill.

one wanders if EA owns IGN. I don't know why anyone considers their review legit. If they gave bad reviews to big company games it would not turn out well for them. And then on top of it they often gives unreasonably low reviews to games from more independent developers.

This game should get 7.5-8, if a game from a big developer is descent it gets an 8.5 or above...

On top of it, one of the characters in ME3 is voiced by someone from IGN, which is a conflict of interest right there...

FWIW, i rate on a 5 point scale, ME3 is a solid 3 as it stands, it lost a point for bugs and a point for the ending, the only reason it doesnt fall down into a 2 territory is that the rest of the game is exceptional... I could have forgiven the bugs had the ending not been garbage...

ME1 is a 3, Losing a point for the Mako sections and for combat feeling "tedious" at times, and ME2 (With all the DLC) is a pretty solid 5/5 in my book...the scanning stuff never got too tedious to me and the Hammerhead was a lot nicer than the Mako.. plus the storyline and quests and everything were always fun, combat was challenging and never tedious or annoying...

The 21st century needs to grow up, in all honesty.

Everyone is mad about the endings, a happy ending would have been just about all to predictable with a side dose of disappointment. Is it not something we have all seen numerous times in the past already? I personally very much liked the endings, each choice having a consequence to reach your desired result. Also the game brings up issue's that are in actuality very important.

Oh but I forgot everyone was playing the game so that they could see shephard go out with his friends and have a nice BBQ with your choice of interstellar Beer, not to save the galaxy from certain multiracial genocide.

This game did make me crack my Origin petition, and even after getting it there was a list of problems, NOT with the game, but with Origin itself. The game would crash upon start up, I have to go through a list of file hot fixes everytime I desire to play the game. Also, games dont install to the correct directory. Origin Overlay stopped working after the second launch. 60 USD and I didnt even have a fancy paperweight to show for it. I ended up trying to get help from origin live which was fruitless, surprisingly enough I found the fixes off of numerous google searches

I very much approve of the game, and ONLY the game.

.

Because I got into this and started typing out a lot of spoilers.. First off i will say im not AS upset about the ending as some folks, I dont like it, but im not getting militant over it... It does make me question buying future Bioware games however....but anyways...
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
You kinda miss what many fans are kinda upset about.. They dont care if its happy, sad, etc, or whether their shepard lives or dies, What they wanted was an ending that delivered on the promise.... Which is, that the choices you've made since ME1 were going to actually AFFECT the ending of the game... it doesnt tell us what exactly happened after the ending either, which when you've built an entire series based around the power of your choice and decisions as well as the interaction with your crewmates, is kinda crappy.... A lot of people being fed by Kotaku seem to be of the opinion we're pissed the game didnt end with sunshine, unicrons and a barbeque, Thats not it at all, All we wanted was closure and an absolute resolution, which is what we were promised by the games creator...

All three endings are functionally the same, No matter what you choose the ending plays out EXACTLY the same... The Reapers stop Reaping, The mass relays go boom, And nothing is really answered.. like what about all the ships that are now in the Sol system? What do they do? What happened to your squadmates? Did anyone die on earth? Why was Joker flying AWAY from the battle which is completely against his character and all logic? Why was my crew on the Normandy? including characters I brought with me to the final battle?!?!? Theres tons of bloody ways this could of played out that were not like this... Even keeping the current bits of the ending why not have an option where you can argue with the Catalyst? Point out that the Geth and the Quarians are coexisting, How much EDI helped you on your mission and etc and tell him that perhaps that means his logic is completely flawed, Why not have an option where if you got enough war assets your fleet actually manages a victory without the Crucible? Shepard basically telling the Catalyst that no single person has the right to decide such a thing... That its up to the civilizations to make these decisions, and people are entitled to free will... Even just having these as options for second playthrough with most war assets or something would be sufficient...

This is after all, The ending, It should end the thing, Not ask questions, Not pose thought about what will happen in the universe or what happened to Shepard, It should end Shepards story and the story of the fight against the reapers definitively, There should be no questions, No "What happened" it should be spelled out and absolute, This happened... thats it, its over with, We can move on with the universe....

Heck, even within the game itself the Galaxy at War thing doesnt seem to really "Affect" much after a certain point, Wheres my reward for bringing everything and getting every possible war asset? I spent an entire day playing multiplayer trying to get my stupid modifier to 100% to make sure when i went to the final battle i got everything I could... And at the end of it, I just felt like i did all that work for pretty much nothing... I wanted to watch the fleet i assembled beat the **** out of the reapers or something, pound them up into dust before the crucible finished them off...

The game screams of being "half finished" or "half done" You might have a point that if the game wasnt part of the Mass Effect universe and already established storyline and everything we might not be so mad about the ending....but its got the weakest ending of the games...

But at the end of the day, to me, the ending felt like a stupid hook and a sales pitch to buy DLC as opposed to an actual ENDING to the game series, if they wanted to do DLC they still could have implemented it after the ending JUST fine without a problem...Instead I feel like I'm going to be paying out for the actual ENDING to the trilogy in a month or two, instead of it being included with the game...

Ugh, another ignorant post about how people want a happier ending, this is NOT the case, how about you do some research on the subject before coming out with more silly stuff.
