[Build Log] First Watercooling Build with TJ07 (Serious 56K warning)

Thread Starter
Well it's been about 3 or so weeks since I built my watercooling loop and everything has been running great. I actually didn't plan it out and just put two and two together as I started building the loop, which turned out pretty decent. It only took a day to complete the build, but about 12-13 hours to transfer cases and switch from air-cooling to water-cooling.

At it's current state, it's still very raw and messy and I'm hoping to clean it up once I get my 2150GTs from the group buy and once I have some free time (full-time college student + part-timer worker does not grant me much of this nowadays sad-smiley-002.gif).

Most of my parts came straight from my original build and I only bought all three blocks and tubing to complete my loop. The TJ07, my rad, res, and pump all came from this lucky craigslist deal I found: Linky

Current Parts:
  • Case: Silverstone TJ07 (Silver with Window)
  • Motherboard: MSI 790FX-GD70
  • CPU: AMD PhenomII x2 555 unlocked to B55 x4 @ 4ghz/2.8ghz
  • GPUs: Gigabyte 5870 1GB 2x in Crossfire
  • RAM: Samsung 2x4GB DDR3 1600mhz 8-8-8-22-1T 30nm/Half-height RAM
  • PSU: Antec TruePower New 750W (Blue LED version)
  • HDD1: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB HDD
  • HDD2: Seagate Barracuda 500GB HDD

Watercooling Parts:
  • XSPC Rasa CPU block
  • XSPC Rasa GPU blocks (2x)
  • Swiftech MCP-655 speed-variable pump
  • DangerDen Dual-Bay Reservoir
  • Thermochill PA120.3 (360mm rad and double-thick 60mm width)
  • Yate Loon High Speeds (3x in Push)
  • Masterkleer UV Blue tubing (1/2" x 3/4")
  • Sunbeam RheoSmart6 fan controller

Future Updates:
  • Intel i5 2550K - check
  • Z68 motherboard - undecided
  • 8x 2150RPM GT fans - shipped
  • 90GB-128GB SSD - undecided
  • XSPC EX240 - not bought yet

I'm actually not quite sure how I plan to improve what I have currently, but I will edit this post when ideas, money, and time reach me.

I apologize for the long wait, but I found it hard to give time to upload 150-200 pictures (15-30 seconds each) when I could be playing games or studying. thumbsupsmiley.png I hope you guys enjoy my build log and feel free to give criticism where it is due, so I can try to improve it.

As for now, it will be organized somewhat chronologically, but I may change that in the future so it gives a better presentation.

Day 1

Here are the pictures of when I first received my case and it was in a very dirty condition. Not sure why the previous owner decided to sell everything for $80, when he could probably have gotten $200-300, but I'm not gonna question paying less. thumb.gif These early pictures were taken with my Galaxy SII, so they are not of best quality.

Here I am ghetto-rigging 80mm fans to the VRM/VRAM areas on my GPUs, but I made a mistake by putting 3-in-1 oil in the fans, so after all that work I ended up taking them off due to the loud noise they were making.

Looking forward to this log. as I've owned my TJ07 for about 3 months now and I'm considering water cooling.

Not sure what rad's I could utilise, I have a PSU down the bottom, a coolermaster silent pro, so I could probably fit a 480 rad maybe a dual or triple rad beside the psu. I'll look through this build for ideas smile.gif

I'll have more posted in the afternoon or evening, but you should be able to do a quad and at least a dual besides the PSU. The previous owner of my case already mounted the pump behind the rad, so I kept to what was already there. My pictures would probably explain my setup much better. Thanks for your interest. wink.gif

Yeah I can see a quad and a dual going in there quite well, if I were to work on the PSU cabling and management. I also want to chop up part of my Lian Li V1010B to blank out the 2x 92mm fans at the back, then drill it to allow mounting my two 80mm Xigmatech Orange's. I love these fans, and didn't realise when I bought them they were 80mm, 92mm is an annoying size frown.gif

I'd rather the case was a bit wider and the two rear fans were 120mm lol.

Well isn't this exciting tongue.gif
