Help with thermal glue please!

Hi all

Just attempted to use some Phobya 2 Component Thermal Glue to put some copper heatsinks on my GTX 570 VRM chips...the glue doesnt work at all. the heatsinks dont stick for crap they just fall off. I have mixed the glue parts correctly, how are they not sticking?

I have removed the glue off the VRM chips as best I can but there is still some glue present on my vrm chips and around them i cant remove...is this going to damage my graphics card?

How long did you let it set before powering on the card?

The residual glue will not damage your graphics cards. Try using some goo-be-gone or a solvent like rubbing alcohol (90%) on a qtip to remove any residual glue. After that, take a pencil eraser and gently rub until it comes off (or does not).

Can you tell us about the ratio and curing time you used for the glue, so that we can double check your process?

left it for 15 mins or so? How long does it take? and will it damage any components if theres tiny blobs that have spilled over the vrm chip sides onto the gpu board?

Phobya thermal glue is not electrically conductive, so it will not damage your gpu if spilled everywhere. It might inflict damage on any OCD-ness you have, but not the card.

Ninja Edit: You probably need to cure it for much longer than that. Arctic Thermal Glue needs to cure for at least 5 hours, so I imagine phobya's is in the same ballpark.

If it's anything like an epoxy mixture, you're going to need to let it sit for a few hours at the least.

Percisly.

Let it sit overnight. And small amounts go a long way. smile.gif
