Mech.Keyboard [a couple choices, lmk]

I'd like to ask the OCN community which is the best option for me:

Waiting for the new KBT Race (Brown) or Pure (I think Red is only available) Limited Editions
or
Noppoo Choc Mini 84 (Brown)

What's most important, no numeric pad, and least important is backlit.
I've never had a mechanical keyboard, and I think brown might be a nice starting point. I like to double tap keys, and I don't know if I will like bottoming out on blacks (not like I don't already bottom out all the time with my rubber dome).
I don't mind getting use to a layout, and I'm not sure how I feel about the Race having keycaps that are irreplaceable.
They say they Pure might be the same layout as the Poker.

I'm not sure which type of keycap I prefer, because I'm so use to this shiney and slippery crappy rubber dome.
I heard PBT feels a bit more rough than POM, but the quility of PBT is preferred normally.

Any thoughts? Budget is about $115 and I'm willing to wait for the KBTs (two weeks wait).

Qucik edit: If I went with the Mini 84, I would get the white keyboard which comes with the PBT (just because of what people normally say they like here). The only downside is no backlit, but I heard a member say they might be working on a new mini (which I won't be waiting for, unless someone chimes in with some good news).

I personally don't like the compact layouts of the Choc/Poker. If you ever want to replace the keycaps, half of them are rendered useless because you have specially printed caps.

Consider getting a more standard TKL. Leopold/Filco TKL in browns will not only have more standardized layouts, but will probably resell better if you don't like the switch.

Glad you brought that up:

I suppose your recommendations would allow me to switch keyboards without having to get use to a new layout (besides the fact, there is no numeric pad).

Someday, I would like to change my keycaps and I suppose that would be a problem.... but keycaps is aesthetics, and I need so many more things before I pimp out a keyboard. Like headphones, I use $3 earbuds. Or a new motherboard, or a x1 soundcard so I don't have to buy a new motherboard.

For now, my main goal is a mechanical keyboard. The only reason I wanted browns, was the noise factor and the recommendations I've been getting for a beginner to the scene. I just want a keyboard for gaming and typing. I'd probably enjoy the typing aspect of the keyboard more, even though I game 95% of the time on the computer.

If you play any games that use the F keys, then a compact keyboard won't serve you well. For example, in SC2, using the F keys allows me to jump camera pretty easily.

I'd honestly suggest getting a TKL unless you for-sure know that you will never use the Fn keys.

The function layer on the Poker is actually pretty easy to get used too. Although if you were a avid game player it might present you with some usability issues.

I'm not even sure if the first poster means function keys or F1-F12 keys, and please forgive me... I am a rookie, and I'm not sure if they mean the same thing or not, but I presume there is a function key with the non-numeric pad keyboards.

I wish you folks could give me some insight on these two new KBT Limited Edition keyboards, but I can't even find any information on them on the net. There is only one thing I can find, and that's a geekhack groupbuy on the non limited editions, and in that same post I see the poster saying that they will be available for order on the 18th (in his thread, but he hasn't been active for a good week + he never responded back on AIM).

I think I would like to have the option of changing key caps, but I can also argue that I won't be assured if the brown switches are for me... so there is the possibility of switching keyboards, but I'll stay positive minded and hope for the best. I'm willing to go with either layout, as far as cramped goes..... but as I'm typing this, maybe I should just go with a normal layout... I'd hate to miss keys on accident, because I don't like to look at my keyboard when I game.

If I wanted a normal layout mechanical keyboard with brown switches (or a switch you'd recommend for typing and gaming with noise not being a big issue) and no numeric pad, what would you recommend?

The tough part is: I want to stay around $100 USD (willing to go up to $125).

I don't know what the feel difference is between POM and PBT caps, and I don't know if I have a fetish for a certain text/font on the keycaps. So please, if you can give me a few keyboards to choose from.. I'd appreciate it!

Leopold TKL
CM Quickfire (made by same people as Leopold)

Probably the only two decent ones that are under 125.

The Quick Fire Rapid is made by Costar, Filco's are made by Costar, Leopold's are not made by Costar.

OP talked about KBC Poker too. Point about keycaps still stands.

Sorry for botching the manufacturers. Not that it really matters.
