Rate my build?

Thread Starter
This is my build, I built it Christmas day (I'm 14 and had to wait til Christmas to put it together). its a couple months old and still going strong (built in 2 hours).

AMD Phenom II x6 1055t
Thermaltake Spin-q (more appearance rather than performance)
Two Nividia gt 545's in SLI (3 gigs of video memory* total)
Asus m4n98td evolution (nice budget board)
8gb (2x 4gb) PNY 1333 (10666)
OCZ 750watt Fully Modular PSU
1tb Seagate Barracuda HDD
Cheapo CD/DVD RW drive
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
CoolerMaster HAF 922 case (has 3 blue LED fans and a side window)

TOTAL COST: ~$1100

There are my specs, I just ordered another 4 gig stick of RAM, and am probably ordering more soon for a total of 16 gigs. Keep in mind I'm not a snobby rich kid, I saved for this build for a few years. My system automatically dedicated another 1 gig of RAM for video memory for a total of 4 gigs. I mostly use this system for gaming, but I also am learning Photoshop, Flash, and a couple coding languages. I put this system together by myself because my parents are in no way "tech saavy."

So did I do good, or did I screw up? Please rate my build!!

Compare to me I give you a a 9/10.
Good job bro! thumb.gif

Future add-ons you might consider are,... - adding a good SSD( or two in RAID config), fan control panel,... Water cooling !!! and,... oh yeah - Water cooling !!!

Good build you got goin there - if you intend to OC heavily, you might wanna get memory faster than 1333 though - 1600 and up for that. but 1333 will be just fine for gaming and mild OC'ing,...

looks very good, i too have the thermaltake spin-q. however i did order the coolmaster 212 evo, which looks to be the best in air cooling.

Pics would be good. biggrin.gif The thermaltake spinQ, gee I remember this cooler. I ordered mine from the US because I couldn't get it anywhere in AUS and I just wanted something different to a boxy looking air cooler. 1600mhz RAM would give you more head room for overclocking. I just went from 1600 to 2133 and love it.

Other than that, mate you should be very proud of your achievements. thumb.gif

Yeah definitely 9/10

Interesting on the GT 545s but I’m pretty sure a single 6870 or 6950 (or 560 Ti) would perform better.

Considering the 1055T is paired with DDR3-1333 RAM which will pretty much hold it back from any CPU OC larger than 3.5Ghz (for which, ideally, you would be pushing with a DDR3-1600 kit in support) and the disappointing total cost of $1100 for a build that has no SSD, I wouldn't give this a 9/10.  Far from, in fact, in my opinion :/

The order of another 4 gig stick of RAM is going to end up useless not only in that redundant RAM won’t necessarily give you performance, but you might lose it – Windows optimizes for the amount of RAM available regardless of single or dual channel.  Because at above 8GB operation the entire stack switches to single channel as per flex memory (and you’re lucky the whole thing isn’t just running in single channel right away), you may perceive lower performance than you would normally expect with 8GB in dual channel.

My own PC claims a 1055T, NH-D14, 5850, HX520, a sound card and plenty of HDD storage space inside an Antec 1200 for under $1000 since 2010.  Granted, I got a lot of good deals along the way that the average person couldn't usually get (i.e. the D14 was a gift).  Just saying, you could've done a lot better at that price, even with the current prices of items and no special deals.

so i would see a difference in moving from 1600mhz ram to 2133?

Nice build, Just remember that even if you you have two cards (Gpus) with a total of 3gb for both, the memory isn't shared, so you always need to cut the number in half. Unless that changed and if so Im sorry.

2 GT545's in SLI ?
I would have gone with 1 gtx560ti/6870/6950 and SLI/CF them when i had more momeny saved up. 2x a GT545 kind of limits you to upgrade.
Also in SLI/CF you cant just add up the video memory, total is still the amount of memory from 1 card.

1333mhz RAM limits you in overclocking the CPU, why didnt you got 1600mhz RAM ? you can find them just as cheap as 1333mhz RAM.
You sayed you are going to buy another stick of ram... DONT !!
Get 2 sticks of 4GB RAM 1600mhz and sell the others. 8GB RAM is good enough and you can add more along the way.
Also to keep it in dual channel you dont want to run with 3 dimms.

Windows 7 Ultimate is a waste of money unless you really need the extra feature's wich most people at home really dont.
A home Premium version would have been just as good and cheaper.

Overall a nice build, just a few beginners mistake's it seems...
