so basically what this means is the GTX 580 is also not moving down in price much.. that is quite disappointing.. sad-smiley-002.gif
WE ARE ALL BEING TROLLED BY AMD AND NVIDIA's PRICE FIXING.

Now I have to wait even longer to upgrade... I can NOT see any point in spending more than $300 (after tax) on a video card upgrade. I have my sights set on a 580 as my next video card upgrade.

I really cant see how they release flag ship cards at these insane price points. I remember back when I bought my 4870 512MB (currently viewing though it to type this) I bought it for about $320 ON RELEASE and it was the BEST Video card on the market period.

Its just sick to me to see consumer flag-ship cards at $600-700.. now for a "workstation" / FIREGL or Autocad "optimized" Card- Yea I get the $1000 price tags in that segment.. but for the average "tech enthusiast" or "PC gamer" I cant see how they justify these prices for video cards.

Dear Nvidia and AMD
Please try to produce more cards and FASTER cards so that we can keep things moving along smoothly I understand currently your milking the hell out of your products (which is fine) but cards like the GTX 580 should be in the $300 price range by now, SERIOUSLY.

So first nVidia claim it will completely destroy the 7970, then they say it will beat the 7970 by 10%, then say that it wins in some and loses in others (with the results being provided by nVidia),
and NOW they say it will "trade blows"

they said "trade blows" so most probably it will be worse. if it was 1% faster than 7970 they would've hyped it differently

Well, my 580 just got an extension for use in this system. Congrats.

Lets see the benchies when they're ready, but I'm not holding my breath :\

seriously? no one is forcing you to upgrade. it's personal preference. I had a 4870 1GB CF setup years ago(I can't call them cheap neither). one of the best cards i've ever owned. Palit HD4870 dual fan ed. but that's like 20 years ago @_@ if you still haven't upgraded from an old HD4870 it's quite sad. there's A LOT of great cards released by both amd and nvidia. if you're still stuck with a measly 4870 and keep shouting BS for every card that's released then you're missing a lot. just saying

even if kepler was 15% faster, AMD still won. nVidia is like 3 months late hahah, and considering their "manufacturing troubles" it looks like it will be 4-5 months after the release of GCN when we finally get to see decent quantities of cards

this is what I figured. I've been thinking of getting two gtx 680's this generation (skipped a gen) now I think I'll go back to AMD again. the last amd cards that I used were two HD6870's and it was one of the best exp I ever had. a lot of horsepower but ran very cool and power efficient. these 480's are fast but they run too hot and literally bakes my room. it's pretty humid here already so it's not helping. an i5 ivybridge would be great too biggrin.gif

Its to bad they only have 2GB. That really screwed them at higher resolutions such as 2560x1440. Looks like I'll take the 7970 then...
