Its can be true that GTX 680 is par HD7970..but its not true that GTX680/HD7970 are about 30% powerful than GTX 580..

Business-wise, it's a smart move because from the looks of it, they'll be making quite a bit on this card if it's as small as everyone says. Consumer-wise, yea we're getting the raw end of the deal because in the name of money we're getting less product than originally intended.
I say all that because 2 months ago, GK104 was designated the mid-range card wasn't it? And now it's the flagship and nothing else is mentioned.
That's precisely what is happening. There is no point in releasing something which completely smashes the 7970 now if they can sell a an inferior product for the same price. If AMD had a card that destroyed the 580 completely, Nvidia would have actually released their real flagship. Ofc, this is mainly rumour, but I remain thoroughly convinced that this re-named 680 was initially going to be the GTX 560Ti replacement ... but hey, why sell your card for $200 less if your opponent is selling something that performs similarly for much more?
or maybe, Nvidia just derped on the first iteration of kepler (rather unlikely given the time they've spent on this).
EIther AMD steps up their game and releases a beast of a card (too late now since the 7970 slot is taken, they will have to play with the 8xxx series for that) to force nvidia to respond, or, Nvidia actually prices this card much lower than the 79x0 and forces AMD to drop their prices and respond with a better product.
though GCN is still in its infacy, It looks like it is inferior to kepler's arch for now ... anyway, i'm just waiting for benches now ... and also, the real king of the hill in a few months. ..
