Workstation + GPU for gaming?

Hi guys! so, to make a long story short. I am thinking about building a new pc (for gaming).
Aand. now i got this offer, I'd get an HP XW6600 workstation for about 250$. Its got :
2 x Intel® Xeon® Processor E5440 (12M Cache, 2.83 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) and 12 GB DDR2 RAM... I was thinking I could just replace the stock GPU with my GTX560 Ti 2GB that i use now, for better graphics.

So how do you think this would work for gaming? because It would be much cheaper..

Yeah, that sounds like it would do better.

That's what my dad is doing. Instead of spending another $800 on a dedicated gaming rig, he's just upgrading his older 775 machine to something more formidable and going with SB.

The Xeon isn't as powerful as the current gen's equivalent, Core 2/i7 whatnot, but it's close enough that only benches would show otherwise. You'll be good to go with that. thumb.gif

Had a Xeon X3440 that a friend is using now. Sick little CPU man, I did a rendering project to show off at one point and it dusted my friend's machine while he got a little better framerate in games with his 920 at the time. wink.gif

That 2.83GHz may bottleneck in some games.... Most games are not multi-threaded enough to benefit from 4+ cores.

I would confirm with some CPU benchmarks.

PSU may need an upgrade as well.
Once again...
