Were's the dual core cpu?
For that kind of money he would be better off with a C2D System and
For about the same price , you can get him a really nice rig , that is dual core
post #4 of 12
yea and if you really want AMD get the new AM2 socket with say a 4200X2, no point getting 939 socket now. AM2 means future proofing aswell. and DDR2 ram

Id go for an E6300. Its a more powerful CPU and dual core. Plus its highly overclockable. Overall its a much better bang for the buck.

Got a link for that??? How are people supposed to make sense of a buncha numbers?

I don't know what you're paying for that Athlon 64 3700+, but this 2.2 ghz Opty is only $116 shipped....Opteron's are higher quality than Athlon 64's, since they were designed to run in servers. Plus, the Opty is way better for overclocking...

Oops, here's the link lol http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103596

With 1500, you can get so much better things, i got my sig with 1200, and that was when opteron 165 still cost 300! I think C2D is a better choice now, i am just amazed at how much power that has. Also 7600GT is much cheaper than 7900GT, so go with 7900. It is just so much faster, I think. If you can, wait for deals on ram, PSU, case, GPU. I got about 200 back because of rebate, which makes it even cheaper.
