Help With Asus Router?

Thread Starter
two weeks ago bought a n600 buffalo airstation..

Lan Download was fast @ 30-35m at speedtest.net & like 20-25m for WIFI Ping was 85-95 Real Good

But i rma'd because of disconnects...

So i RMA'd it for This Asus Router http://www.asus.com/Networks/Wireless_Routers/RTN56U/

Yesterday i hooked up the Asus and got 10-25m MAX on speedtest (ping like 130ms) for LAN,
And wireless @speedtest is like between 5-15m (ping 140ms) WAAYYY SLOWER

I tested Asus Before AND after FW update so thats not it...

Not too familiar with networking settings,so i ran Wizard..

Is their some special settings for this Router that i am not doing?? I have it at wpa-personal with a passkey for wireless..

Silly question- but did you power cycle your modem and everything? When you're doing settings and such, a hard reset can solve a lot of issues. thumb.gif

What is that "Fam" router as well as those two switches and the hub?

Thats strange.... I would disconnect everything and redo the entire network. This way you can be sure of the setup. thumb.gif

I don't think I would put much stock in that diagram. My guess would be that fam is the SSID for the wireless and WIndows is assuming the LAN ports on the router are a separate switch, why it thinks there is a hub and another switch is interesting to say the least.

For your speed issue you could look into putting a different firmware on the router, DD-WRT and Tomato are the two I have heard of, this has solved problems for me (ports not opening correctly). Could be worth looking at.
