I am truly done with World of Warcraft

I have played WOW on and off since the first day of vanilla. It is an ASTOUNDING achievement for all those involved in creating the game. I am truly envious of the developers involved as they created a game that crushed all records previous held by any MMO. But I think the time to say ok, it's truly done for me.

For a few weeks now, I have been debating with my bank account if I should invest in some more playing time, luckily I was sent an email from an old friend asking me to come back. Blizzard was going to offer me free 7-Days of playing time, excited to say the least. However this was when my first doubts came into play. With this free trial, they also offered the following.
  • A FREE Transfer to your friend's realm.
  • A FREE upgrade to Cataclysm

This was a good start, I already had Cataclysm, but it was nice that Blizzard wanted to help those who hadn't got it yet. There was one other thing which frustrated me.
  • A character boost to level 80

Sorry what now? Is it just me...or does that seem to destroy everything that Blizzard built? I don't believe the company is that desperate that they now need to offer free cheats for players....

For some reason, this destroyed WOW for me. I logged in, saw everyone just sitting in stormwind, and closed the game as quickly as I could.

I guess onto the future for me.

Guild Wars 2 it is.

WoW is a great game still, just have to have people to play it with (friends or a guild). I'm in the US 26th guild, so maybe that's why I'm not bored.

I will always remember WoW fondly but when Lich King came out I just......well I just didnt like it.

as if I wanted to do Naxx......again....

It's not that I didn't have anyone to play with, it's the fact there is just a static world, with players mining honor and gold.

Is a game not meant to be about the variation and unexpectedness. Wow can be predictable now, partly due to the holy trinity, but party because the engine used is outdated. I would challenge the writers to redo wow today, with the current technology, after all the lessons they have learned

I am hoping for this from TITAN, blizzards undercover project.

To reiterate, I LOVE WOW, it is just starting to show its age a little bit for me.

That's pretty sad. I quit WoW about 4 years ago, and every time I go back to dip into that good old nostalgia, I can never feel the magic anymore because it's just not the same game. The Old World is basically abandoned, and when I see some toon driving around on a motorcycle it makes me want to throw my hands up in despair.

It was a great game once, but it died a slow death for me and for a lot of the original players. It's hard to believe how many subscriptions are still up and running.

Quit WoW, erase it from your mind, and start hyping about GW2.

That's my advice.

I always try to go back but it just isn't there anymore. Vanilla Wow/BC was awesome... The mechanics just completely changed the game and challenge after that. I just think I am truly burnt out on it. I played EverQuest from Vanilla until WoW then Wow up to LK left and came back played for a bit, left, came back with Cata then left. I really haven't had much desire because I know I will just get bored again.

I just purchased Stars Wars the other week and got bored with it in the first week because I felt as if I was playing WoW.

I am just ready for the next best MMORPG since sliced bread.

You're completely right. The one thing that is wrong with World of Warcraft, is that The Old World has been completely abandoned. Everyone's sitting in Stormwind or Orgrimmar waiting for queues to pop so they can get their 'hard-earned' points/emblems/etc in order for them to buy gear.

I quit 2 1/2 years ago, almost a year after LK came out. I think that expansion killed it for a lot of people. The game ceased to be a challenge, and they seemed to get lazy with design. Instead of new dungeons, we got 10 and 25 man versions of the same dungeons... one we raided constantly in vanilla. I've played EQ since beta, and I can still go back and have it hold my interest, but I don't want to pay a monthly fee anymore. If it goes f2p, I'll probably go back permanently. WoW just feels like I'm playing in a kids' tv show now.
In progress.

Wow is a great game, but all good things must come to an end. I stopped 2 weeks after Cataclysm. The long endless grinds was just too much for me. It had become more like a second job than a hobby at that point. So I quit. I tried going back once but I will never play WoW again, I need something new. Not hating or anything, but everything gets old at some point, and WoW is really old at this point.
