960T x6 OC advice.

Thread Starter
I got my 960T x4 from newegg today and been trying to get it to 4ghz with the two extra cores unlocked.
I looked at some other OC's of 960T's but wasn't sure if I should follow them or look at a different cpu OC
all together since I do have 6 cores total. I know having the other two cores reducing how high I could OC
but I just wanted to see if I could at least get it to 4ghz. Any advice would help me out a lot.

I disabled two of the cores and 4ghz runs stable. I'll include cpuz of everything, not sure what all I should up voltage wise, I'm sure running two extra cores at 4ghz will require more vcore.

do this at your own risk and do not skip any steps . . .

- go back to bios and set everything to default
- disable the following - C1E, Turbo, HT, and Cool & Quiet
- set your vcore to 1.4v or 1.42v (maybe lower for your chip but first try 1.4v)
- raise your Multiplier to 20
- the fsb should be at 200
- all other settings at default or auto
- save and exit.

hope it boots. monitor your temp using programs like hw monitor. WATCH the TEMPS.

- if you think it is stable (not acting up and without priming it) - unlock the extra core leaving all settings the same - except - BUMPING THE VCORE by 0.02V.

hope it boots. monitor your temp using programs like hw monitor. WATCH the TEMPS.

EDIT: i just saw you needed 1.42 for 4 as a quad. try unlocking at the same vcore disabling what needs to be disabled.

Ok I unlocked them but was unable to boot at 4.25, I was able to boot at 4.45. What is the max voltage I would be able to do?
I'm at 40 degrees right now idle which is 7degrees above what It was with 6 cores at 3ghz. I'm going to run prime 95 and if I get a bsod
should I increase the voltage more or change something else? I do need to go and change my ram timings and mhz, its running at 1066 7-7-7-16
I usually have it at 1600 7-7-7-24 but I might have to keep it at 1333 with this OC.

looking good! so long as you do go over 1.55v. the lower the better.

Prime? What are you using to cool your chip?

EDIT: for fine tuning you NEED to read this guide . . .

Tried two bumps up in vcore and prime 95 says one of the cores had a error and stopped the test on that core. I think that usually means I need to raise the voltage and I have a little room to play with much not much. I'm using a corsair h60 water cooler.

h60 may not be enough. you can try. do not let your cpu temp go any higher than 62C. that is the max safe temp for our chips - thubans.

I'm getting close. 1.75 vcore and I still got a error on one core but no bsod. I didn't run it for very long so I don't know if It is 100% stable but max temp was 55.
Once I get to where all cores run stable at 4ghz should I OC my NB? Its at 2000 since its on auto.

1.75v. no way! 1.6V for suicide runs yes but not that high.

just settle for 4.2 GHz or something.

- Keep NB at 2000 @ 1.26V
- CPU/NB 2800 @ 1.37 - 1.4V
- Enable LLC for both CPU and CPU/NB if available

Again, do not go over 1.55V even if temps stays at 55C or below.

NOTE: Take your time and read the guide. RAM settings will help in stability.

gl! i have to hit the shack.
