You could always use a background filled with one color, I normally use a red, then blue, then a green screen.

the included dvi cable works when connected to my existing 22in monitor so I think that's OK. I tried hooking up the pcbank to a different computer, same results. the seller (green-sum) is sending a US compatible power adapter. hopefully that fixes the problem and its not just a DOA monitor.

I'd buy a different dvi-D dual link cable too to test with.

Looks like it might be the power adapter. Several people mentioned in this thread that the monitors accept 120v, but according to the adapter mine came with, it only supports input of AC 230V. Can anyone recommend a cheap replacement power adapter for use in the US?

Did you try both DVI ports? On my reference Gigabyte (Only unlockable card still available) HD 6950 only one DVI port seems to recognize my Shimian which is a shame because if I was to get another one then I'll need to get a pricey Display Port to dual-link DVI adapter.

Yes I did. And that was sort of the odd thing. When plugged into one dvi port, the status led on the monitor didn't change, it remained solid red. When plugged into the other, it would turn green, but nothing would display on the screen. Like I said in a previous post, I tried the monitor on an entirely different computer (one with an amd 4870) with no luck. But the dvi cable works fine when connected to my old 22 inch 1680x1050 monitor. The seller is sending a universal AC adapter and I'll hopefully be able to pick up a new dual link dvi cable tomorrow.
