[BUILD LOG] Frost Giant - A Switch 810 Watercooling build - Page 18

CrazyGood, you do realize its insanely easy to wire to the PSU with the Amazon RGB strips right? I should've taken a pic while the back panel was off, but I basically cut the DC connector off the AC adapter and wired the two wires inside straight to the 12V part of a molex.

Hmmm. I'll look into it. Im not the most electrical person ever lol. I know hardware and whatnot though. I do want to test wire multiple fans into one connector. That seems easy enough since I know how to solder

If you can solder, you can handle this. I cut off the DC connector with extra wire, stripped it back, then twisted it with positive/negative 12V from the molex. Soldering would be better, but I'm lazy, lol.

Ok well because you seem to know what you're doing here.. Quick question.

I plan do do a similar idea. (obviously) But with this - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Music-Sound-IR-RGB-Wireless-LED-light-strip-Remote-Controller-12V-10A-120W-/330730839634?pt=US_Lighting_Parts_and_Accessories&hash=item4d01181e52#ht_3547wt_1110

And It has a negative and positive screw terminal.
So, I went out in my garage and cut off a 4 wire molex connector off a junk power supply I didnt need. I plan to just use the red and black wires on the molex to power it. would that work? and also.. how to I get rid of the other two? (Im not familiar)

Same principle, just run the molex wires to the terminals.

Look up a picture of how the voltages are laid out for molex connectors since two are 5V and two are 12V. It would work, except wouldn't that mean it plugs into connectors instead of plugging into power supplies?

You can just cut off the other two wires or remove the pins entirely.

Red wire, two black, and a yellow.

You cut it off a power supply, so I don't think that going to do any good unless you can plug it into the new power supply (or wire it if you want).

It does require a special tool or a lot of work with small screwdrivers, lol.

Yellow - 12V
Black - Ground
Black - Ground
Red - 5V

You are correct. You could use the 5V but the LEDs would be very dim.

Quick update!
Just contacted Gene (the guy who makes the Monsoons) and he will be sending me a pack (maybe more, he didn't say) of angles for my build. He said about 20 days.
The reason I say maybe more is because he only asked what size I wanted and what color, but not 45 or 90 degrees, and when I asked if 45s were in the works also, he said both. But I never specified what I wanted so we'll see. Pretty cool idea they had actually for the angles. unlike BP fittings, these angles are being made in various tube sizes to match the OF of the monsoon fittings that we have, so there wont be a bulky compression at the top of an angled fitting, it'll be a smooth line throughout
