A good upgrade from 8800 gts?

Thread Starter
CPU:AMD Athlom 64 X2 6000+,
Board: M2N-SLI DELUXE
Memory: DDR2

Bought a ATI 6770 but no luck, the current setup isn't compatible. It won't even load to windows; it says that "your windows last boot fail or post interrupted. Please enter setup to load default and reboot again."

Now I'm returning the GFX Card and looking into nvidia. Used to run a 8800 gts on this rig but looking to upgrade it or if not get a 8800gts with 1gb.

Any thoughts?

A single GTS 450 will be a great upgrade. Your cpu will be the limiting factor.

Is the price similar? Does upgrading GFx require BIOs update? The rig used to rock 8800 gts til it died. Now we're looking to upgrade it with a better card that wont bottle neck the performance. (yes we're aware that the comp specs are outdated)

May I ask what is the need to upgrade? Your CPU and graphics card seem to be well paired as of now.

Just a thought since the old 8800gts died, we have to buy a gfx card and since we're doing that. We would like a better card than 8800gts. Hope I'm making sense.

We already bought Radeon 6670 and it doesn't work. We keep receiving this error "your windows last boot fail or post interrupted. Please enter setup to load default and reboot again" and it won't load to windows.

Quick question tho, does upgrading GFx needs a BIOS update?

I just put a gts 450 in my brothers rig an it was around $100. No your bios will be fine just update your video drivers.

That CPU will probably bottleneck anything more than a 9800gtx+. Maybe a gtx260.

TC you do need to update your BIOS to support some of the newer cards. I'm not sure what you're on now but BIOS 1804 supports some of the newer ATI cards(5k series I believe). You can test it with your 6770 first then try BIOS 5001. It was the last BIOS update for the Deluxe which adds better support for the Phenom II AM3 chips. I have the same motherboard you do and a Phenom II 965 with a pair of GTX 460's in SLI so don't think the board is the limit. It still has tons of potential for being nearly 4 years old.

edit: TC - this topic is dedicated for this board and its sister boards. The guys are gurus with getting anything to work with it. Check it out if you are still having problems after updating your BIOS.

Thanks! I will try it today and see if it goes any better, I haven't upgraded the BIOs yet so I can't really tell. One thing I do know is that it was good the first time I popped the GFx card in then failed after the reboot after installing the drivers. Will comeback with updates if it does any better, or will get an NVIDIA counterpart if won't, atleast the board supports NVIDA. lol =(
