At the end of my sanity with build

Thread Starter
I built the following computer recently, only to not have it post:

CPU - Intel Celeron G530 (Sandy Bridge 1155)
Mobo - MSI H67MS
RAM - 2x4 PNY Optima, 1333 @ cas 9 (crap ram)
PSU - Antec 'Green' 380W
Video - Zotac GeForce 210 (inconsequential)

So after some troubleshooting, I figure the motherboard is DOA, since the likelihood of 2 bad ram sticks is very low. This is RMA'd.

Fast forward. New motherboard, still will not post. Tried another psu as well with no luck. Even a different monitor. With onboard/discrete gfx. Figure the CPU is dead. RMA that.

Fast forward. New CPU... Doesn't work. Try with completely new ram. Doesn't work.

I am completely lost and have no idea. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried it without the graphics card using the onboard?

Tried with onboard/discrete, yet no avail on either. One thing that was just suggested to me is to use the hdmi out onboard, as some do not output to the others unless the user sets it.

I am currently digging through my piles of stuff for a speaker. Will report back soon.

Have you tried other RAM to be sure? Also, I'm not seeing a HD on that list, what is your HD?

Could be a long shot but on my ip35 pro there is a cmos reset switch. when I first built it for some unknown reason it was set to the reset position...result no post/boot. I don't know that mobo's features but just a thought Good luck with sorting it

wouldnt effect it posting

does it turn on at all? If yes, im not really sure what to say seeing as I cant physically mess with it.

If not, check that PSU.

Also, not trying to insult your intelligence, but you plugged in the 4-pin connector to the Mobo right?

I believe this board has a jumper. I couldn't tell you if it needs to be to the left or right but deffinately worth a check. Your manual should tell you the correct postion. It may even tell you on the board but will be highly abbreviated.

Do you have the owners manual? Read through it thoroughly. I can see a 4 pin cpu power connector and 24 pin atx power connector, make sure both are connected properly first.

Next look in the manual for the reset jumper setting like noted above and make sure it's in the right position, it should be a 3 pin with a jumper on 2 pins.

If you install the PCIe x16 graphics card compatible with your board you should see the post on your monitor connected to it. That is a default.

Your power supply seems really small, what size was the other one you tried? I wouldn't go any smaller than 550w minimum.

As far as memory even if 2 slots were bad 4GB is enough to run a 64 bit W7, and you would still be able to post.

To all who stumble on this thread in the future:

Celeron G530's DO NOT work with this board

This is contrary to MSI's website, where it explicitly states that these two work together.

This is how I know:

1. Old CPU / Old Mobo

    ----Replaced Mobo----

2. New Mobo / Old CPU

    ----Replaced CPU----

3. New Mobo / New CPU

    ----Purchased i3----

4. New Mobo / i3

    ----Worked!----

Inside of this chain, the only way for the mobo and g530 to be compatible would be if either the first CPU or Mobo were bad, ALONG with the second CPU.

I hope this will save someone the trouble and money later

Thanks to all of you for the ideas and help!
