Gigabyte 7970: Has 1 Dual Link DVI port, but I need two?

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
Question: I didn't realize that the 7970 only has 1 dual link DVI (+2 mini + 1 hdmi). But it looks like I need two - 2233RZ needs Dual link DVI for 120 hz capability, and the Shimian (similar to Catleap) only accepts dual DVI as well.
If I get an adapter, for ex something like this: will it convert the signal correctly?

You should do this 1 Dual link DVI -> DVI (PC)
1 Dual link DVI -> MiniDP(PC)
The second one (2233RZ), you need to buy the cord DL-DVI -> MiniDP.

For the Shimian, you can do Dual link DVI -> HDMI

i would be getting an active mini display port converter, something like this,

http://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-003J-UltraAV-miniDisplayPort-Dual-Link/dp/B0030XMREG/ref=sr_1_15?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1331731707&sr=1-15

not 100% sure on that one tho,
but for $2 +free shipping i would try the hdmi - dvi

the fact that an active display port costs $110 is rdicilous. i am going to sell my gigayte 7970 windforce and get the msi lightning 7970 when it comes out, at least that cards comes with two dvi ports.

If your monitor has no native DisplayPort, do not buy Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual Link Active Adapter because it doesn't support 120Hz refresh rate.

Anyone have a better idea than buying the Mini-dp adapter?

Edit: Duh moment - since both video card and monitor have female adapters, I can use a male-to-male plug.

You sure the lightning will have two dual links?
