One main thing that everyone has over looked. The car can not win this years Le Mans. Its running in 'Garage 56' a class for prototype cars that are allowed to run but can not place in the race.
Except, it can’t win.
The DeltaWing is running in a class of one, taking the “Garage 56″ spot at LeMans and wearing a “0″ on its sides, both of which indicate that it’s a noncompetitive, exhibition racer; a rolling proof of concept that gets to play with the big boys and put on a show for the ACO, the organizing body of the race.
So for this years race its a moot point. Audi is not worried at all since it can't impact their race. I think they are more worried about the hybrid Toyota LMP1 cars this year. As for this being the next gen of race cars its a joke IMO. You don't go racing with a very fuel efficient car that can run the needed lap times. The diesels of Audi and Peugeot have been so dominant for three reasons, they can run the lap times, they are fuel efficient(compared to the petrol cars) and they are VERY reliable. I don't see this catching on anytime soon as Audi is very influential with the ACO and now that Porsche has said it will be back at Le Mans in 2014 I don't see the ACO changing this to replace the current LMP1 class.
If no one has seen it watch "Truth in 24". Its free last I checked in iTunes. Very cool movie/documentary.
