So who actually bought a new iPad? - Page 7

I had a transformer prime until a few days ago.. picked up a 64GB Black iPad w/ Verizon 4G..

Being back on an iOS device, I am reminded of why Apple is the leader in tablets. There are a number of things Android does better (customization, flexibility, file system, etc.), but in my experience the volume, and quality of software on iOS is still leagues ahead of android, particularly for tablets.

However, the number one reason I purchased this device was the display.. and it does not disappoint at all. My computer monitor and my 'prime looked positively grainy and pixellated after using this for a while.

Thankfully my galaxy nexus still looks awesome, because it has an even higher ppi than the new ipad, but when are they coming out with 4K monitors again? I'm really wanting one about now smile.gif

The transformer prime is clearly the best android tablet available right now, but the new ipad is just a better machine in terms of user experience for me.

Can't wait to see more devices out there with insane screen resolutions.. easier reading for all of us!

To be perfectly honest, my ideal tablet would be one that could dual boot between iOS and Android.... but that seems unlikely. tongue.gif

I've recently had the chance to play with ICS (HP TouchPad with CM9) and so far, I'm really liking it a lot. I haven't noticed any lag in the ICS UI compared to both the iPad 2 and 3. I'm strongly considering buying the Transformer Infinity 700T when it gets released.
Sure, a lot of Android apps still need to be optimized for larger displays but I believe it'll get there sooner or later. It's not like all the iOS apps were optimized for the iPad right away. I bought my iPad 2 on release and it wasn't until 6 months after that majority of the apps I used were re-designed to take advantage of iPad's bigger screen.

It just seems to flow better and applications seem to open faster.

What really made me miss iOS was the applications. There just aren't that many tablet optimized applications on Android yet. I like the Apples App Store separates the iPad apps from the iPhone apps but in the Android market (or "Play" now) you don't really know what you're getting. There's no point in getting a tablet no matter how good the specifications might be if the apps you want just aren't quite there yet. Web browsing on the Prime was great but the apps just aren't.... at least not yet.

If I do decide to try out the iPad, I would wait until iPad 4 w/LTE and/or get it when Verizon releases shared data plans.

Interesting. Have to say I've never noticed this on my TouchPad+CM9 and I've used the TouchPad and iPads side by side. I had definite lag on webOS but ICS on the TouchPad felt just as fluid as iOS on the iPad to me.

Perhaps this is why I'm happy with ICS. For the three most used functions on my tablet (web browsing, email and comic viewing), I've found the apps on Android to be on par or better than the ones I used on iOS. Chrome Beta is probably the best browser I've used on a tablet. I've found it to be much, much nicer than Safari. Gmail on Android is also better compared to either Apple Mail or Google's Gmail app for iOS. Right now the only thing I'm missing from my current Android tablet is a higher resolution display. I expect I'll be quite content with 1920x1200 on the upcoming Transformer Infinity 700T.

Aside from those tasks, I don't really use my tablet much, preferring the smaller size and lighter weight of a smartphone or e-ink reader.

Apple fanboy-ism is at an all-time high. Didn't the iPad2 JUST come out? I gotta hand it to Apple, they are the true master of puppets.

Yes, the iPad 2 just came out, a year ago (forever in tech time). rolleyes.gif

edit: Oh and BTW, The Asus Transformer was released on March 30, 2011, the Asus Transformer Prime was released November 9, 2011. At least Apple let you have their "best" for a year before releasing a new one (and Apple has been on a yearly update schedule for quite some time, as have many other makers).

In my opinion, a new iPad of any generation is the best replacement for any household computer being used only for checking email, surfing the web, and playing casual games. It can also do a whole lot that a computer can't do which I find to be wonderful. I've never been much of an apple fanboy but I sure am becoming one with my new iPad in hand. thumb.gif
