but you want something that is versatile and can play everything well. a dual core will be good with 99% of the games but with games like BF3 a dual core might not be enough. like what I said earlier you want something that's good with all games not a cpu that's only good with well threaded games but bad with lightly threaded games and vice versa.

to answer the question again. the reason I said bulldozer is not "good" for gaming is because it's good with multithreaded games but bad with lightly threaded games period

Hasn't that statement defeated EVERYTHING you said, now making the the quad core overkill,,,,

tbh it is overkill. if intel released an unlocked version of the i3 2100 then there's no reason to buy an i5 for a gaming rig but alas intel is smart enough to not bury themselves to the ground for releasing an unlocked i3 that overclocks to 5ghz+. like what I said countless times please read it carefully YOU WANT SOMETHING THAT IS GOOD WITH EVERY GAME.

btw when i mentioned about dual core im actually talking about an intel sandy bridge dual core

i also have no idea how you came up with that statement. i think you haven't read my post clearly. try giving it a second look..

well then there you go! People do other things than just gaming, You bought your 8150 for versatility, So buying a quad will be versatile for their needs.

no.... what he is saying is that what is important is threaded performance. Bulldozer lacks threaded performance while Intel's variant doesn't lack the threaded performance.
One of bulldozers biggest downfalls is its threaded performance. so even if it is an 8 core it is still slower than 4 cores with higher threaded performance. Where threaded performance is a factor.
Small wonder.

I wouldn't dream for a second that you would have been talking about anything else. Have you seen my sig rig. I'm not a fanboy just a guy with extra $$ and have been able to buy different CPUS, I switch from Intel to AMD and back, I'll be swithching back to AMD around Piledriver myself. But what I noticed with the two my 1100T and 2600K is about 15% increase on a handful of poorly coded games. My GPUS always did the builk of the work.

then an 8core FX cpu is great for you if you're video editing and gaming.

I have an older gen i7. I used to do a lot of video editing myself but now that I only use it for gaming, I have hyperthreading turned off and increased the overclock to 4.2ghz. I have zero use for hyperthreading so I turned it off to have it running cooler and with less voltage.

with topics like these you have to learn by experience. I've always tried to explain how threaded games work and only a handful of people seem to get it. I just want people to not learn it the hard way. what I'm worried about is with posts like these that will misinform people not only ocn members but a lot of lurkers that browse through our forums daily. I'm not making it a crusade to inform people as much as I can. I just do it when I have time to spare. just my 2 cents.
