Ok sorry for all the questions...but what are Intel's newest Northbridges and Southbridges? Also I notice that alot of intel boards have 8 ram slots....are those gonna hinder the RAM if I don't have 8 Ram sticks? I know before with 4 ram slots if you dont have all 4 full the ram can't run in dual channel?

X79 for 2011, and Z77 for 1155. They use the same southbridge, but I forget what its called. ICH10R I think, but I could be wrong.

Only 2011 boards have 8dimms. Nothing bad will happen if you have less, but i would want atleast 4 to keep all the channals open.

Baisicly all cpus (all) have a number of memory 'channals' to read memory. As of now there is a max 2dimms per channal. Having all channals open increases performance, packing 2dimms per channal decreses it, but only a little so 8 is still a lot better then 2. Socket 1155 has two channals, so two or four dimms. Socket 2011 (the 'high end' socket) has four channals, so four or eights dimms per motherboard (barring dual-cpu server boards)

How good does the 3930 overclock? It scored stellar scores on this:

Well, the 3930k is $600 cheapest, versus the highest end 1155 chip being the 2700k....which is $330. They both overclock to 4.8-5.0GHz (depending on your luck). All unlocked Sandy chips will do 4.8-5.0 usually (or higher). Plus, you also have the added cost of a 2011 motherboard too.

If you go 2011, the best bang for your buck chip is the 3820, but the 3930k is an absolute monster if you can afford it. But its (the 3820) the same thing as a 2600k / 2700k though, except its locked multiplier (but 2011 can overclock via BCLK).

Just one correction not all Sandy Bridges will hit 4.8. Not all will hit even 4.5. Trust me I got stuck with one that won't budge past 4.6 no matter how much voltage I run thru it.

You shouldn't let it stop you though because they are excellent chips even at stock. I actually keep mine at 4.2 because it doesn't heat up past 50 degrees and nothing uses even that much power (game-wise).

Also if gaming is your thing there is no reason to get the hexacore. A good sandy quad core will last you the next three years.

And I also vote in favor of the 7970. I always think it is a poor idea to start your build off with two midrange cards. If you get a 7970 now and it's not quite the performance you wanted you can always add a second later. If you get two 7870s you are stuck.

One problem with that though, he's stuck with it. Same as he would be with 7870's in Crossfire. No option to add more to it, except go quad fire.....which we all know how well that scales.

Is the 3930 locked or unlocked multiplier? Also I was looking at this board and it has PCI 3.0 on the board and bios and my card will be PCI 3.0 capable as well.....is that all I need for PCI 3.0 to work?

Also what are u saying in terms of unlocking it via BLCK?
