The 3930K is unlocked. But like I said, 2011 can overclock via the BCLK as well, so you're not limited to just multiplier like 1155.

That board is great, and you'll need an Ivy Bridge chip (supposed to be released next month) for it to work with PCIe 3.0. That's an 1155 board, so you'll want a 3570k or 3770k (Ivy Bridge).

The 3930k is unlocked. The 3820 isnt, but unlike sb you can overclock sbe by the host clock. Hes not talking about unlocking the multi by blck (host clock) but rise the host clock. The clock speed is host x multi (so for 3820 its 100mhz x 36 multi) so if you rise the host clock (lets just say to 140mhz) then you get a higher speed (140mhz x 36 = 5.04ghz)

Im still confused what BLCK is?

Also How much Ram can Intel make use of (would it be any benefit to fill up all 8 slots even if its only 16 GB total?....Would this allow the Intel to have more avenues to chanell its processing thru?)and what mhz RAM can the 3930 utilize up to?

Is PCI 3.0 gonna benefit the 7970 at all or is it more for the future of video cards?

BCLK is what USED to be referred to as the "front side bus". With newer Intel setups, its now called BCLK or "Base Clock". You take the Base clock, multiply it by your multiplier, and that's your CPU's speed. So for my 4.90GHz (I'm on 1155, so I can't overclock BCLK too easy), I'm at 100MHz BCLK x 49 multiplier = 4900MHz or 4.90GHz (stock being 100 x 33). With 1155 chips, you want a "K" model processor, as those are the ones with unlocked multipliers. With 1155, the BCLK can't be adjusted very far (103-105Mhz is around the highest you can go stable).

I have PCIe 2.0 right now (till I throw in Ivy Bridge), and my 7970 isn't being held back at all. Even at 8x 2.0, it didn't seem like it was that much slower.

Do not buy 2011 for the quad channel RAM. I was reading something somewhere (sorry I really don't remember where but promise I'm not making this up) and due to one reason or another the quad channel RAM was actually slower then just using dual channel. Again sorry I know that sounds like I pulled it out of nowhere I'll look for it. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with latency somewhere along the pipe though.

Also Pioneer explained it pretty well but basically CPU clockspeed it determined by a multiplier. One side of the multiplier is called baseclock and it's multiplied by another number 1-56. You can increase clock speed by either A. increaing the base clock (BLCK) or B. increasing the multiplier. On the 3820 the multiplier is locked but you can increase the base clock from it's stock number of 100. On the 1155 models (i.e. 2500k) you can only increase the multiplier.

Clock speed is one base or host clock multiapled by the convenleintly named multiplyer.

The 3820 has a stock speed of 3.6ghz or 3600mhz

Witch is 100mhz x a multiplyer of 36

To overclock it you can turn the base/host clock up to say 140mhz

Witch give you 140mhz x 36

Witch gives you a clock speed of 5040mhz or 5.04ghz

If you rise it more, higher clock speed. Less, lower

The normal 1066,1333,1600, 1866 and you can of chorse overclock it from there
