Also looking on the Sabretooth page it is saying Quad crossfirex support? You say it will only run two cards in crossfire?

Any GOOD 2011 board will do at least Tri Fire. Some of the higher end boards will even take 4 individual cards. You just have to pay attention to what it says it can do, and how many PCIe lanes it has.

The Sabretooth only has 2 PCIe lanes that work for SLI / Crossfire. Yes, it technically supports quad. But only by using dual GPU cards.

Usually displayport or DVI.

Here's the issue....with the Sabertooth you get all the nice features like ssd caching and NB/SB coolers...but 2 card slots.....with the rampage formula you get 4 card slots but no sdd caching and other newer features and you lose on 4 less Ram dimms to....

And the extreme has very very consistanly bad reviews.....so where does this leave me? I would like plenty of PCIe slots and also the newer features like ssd caching etc etc.....so what do I look at?

Ok I found this....

Three-way NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX configurations are supported, and on the ASUS Sabertooth X79 TUF motherboard PCI-E 3.0 graphics lanes can be configured into a x16/x16/x8 formation. Theses newly added PCI-E lanes enable X79 Express motherboards to operate with full functionality when multiple graphics cards are installed, utilizing USB 3.0 and other mainboard resources without sacrifice.

So the third card runs at x8......question is....if I have a PCIe 3.0 card, slot, and MOBO not to mention an optimized CPU with a ton of PCIe lanes wouldn't that mean I am able to get more than just 8x out of that slot if I use it?

Fine but I hope you know that's LGA 2011 so only SB-E will work on it. I would get something more like the ASUS P8P67 WS Revolution for quad-fire power with great spacing. I would just go for the 7870 cf and have space to add two more. As for the PCI 3.0, it don't make much of a difference now but definitely will in the future it's just a matter of how long.

8x is not a noticeable deficit for gaming at all. You can't even tell

The WS Revo board mentioned above it a great board but with any YMMV on all of these but several people run them here and love them and the spacing is great.

I didn't read all the posts, but who talked you into a 2011 socket for BF3?
you should have just grabbed a 2500K and a gen 3 mobo at the most. That game will not even max out an i3-2100. But it will max out your gpu(s).

Also, if you plan on overclocking the 7950 OCs almost the same as a 7970. They are within about 5% of performance
