yeah, I was amazed at what a $50 pair of headphones could sound like when I got my Senn PMX200's... and it got me thinking, if there's this big of a difference between $25 and $50, I wonder if there's a huge leap in SQ going to $100 or more... and yep there is! with $100 to spend the 2 selections I gave would both be excellent choices.

I recommend the PC165 circumaurals from Sennheiser. The sound from the PC165s - is really good for the price (about $80). The HD555s are superior but you'll pay over $100 for them. You also get a USB connect with the PC165s which you can then plug into a laptop for superior sound (if you have one). Also includes an excellent mic that you can use for gaming. Here's a link:

I use the SIBERIAN ICEMATS and am impressed with them.
Unfortunately these are my first headset used so I'm not
experienced with any others (therefore Im not the foremost expert).

If you play music while you game and like comfort you'll
like them. gL

Did any of the suggestions have surround sound capabilities? I believe that to be a must for the best gaming experience especially in online FPSs. Surround sound offers such a huge advantage that I will never buy another headset that does not support it.

The Sennheiser PC165s were designed specifically for gamers - and has what is called 360 degree sound - i.e. you get surround sound and you can here sounds above and below you. Sennheiser when they designed the PC165s asked professional gamers what they wanted in their headphones. For gaming - PC165 is one of the best.

Icemat is good too. If you want to spend more, you can go with HD555s - but no mic or built in USB and you'll have to buy a good sound card as well.

he has an audigy 2zs so he doesn't need a better sound card... and buying a USB headset would be stupid becuase it would end up bypassing his sound card.

for the money the headphones I listed would be best

I said the USB would be good for a laptop, so it wouldn't be as stupid as you claim it is. And if he has a 2zs then the Sennheisers will sound even better.

For the money, the PC165s IMO are the best. Great surround sound and excellent mic. Sigh, I'm starting to sound like
a commercial.

I suggest you go to an audio store and listen to the phones for yourself before buying.
Audio can be a subjective experience - not everyone agrees on what is good.
