Diablo3 May15 - 7950/7970 will crossfire work?

Thread Starter
after reading the great news of the diablo3 release date.. any input from people running 7950/7970 crossfire in beta. I want to believe that amd will have some stable crossfire drivers for their latest products by then.. but not sure if its a lost hope. I want to pickup another 7950 sapphire oc, but only if its functional.

The beta AFAIK did not make good use of crossfire from what I remember, I only played it a few times.

Is diablo 3 that hard on the GPU anyway? I wouldn't think you'd need CFX for that game.

its fine if your using 60hz screen, you really only need the solid 60fps without frame rate dips. im using 120hz screen you want it 120fps if possible otherwise you do notice the drops. when i run bf3 on single 7950 my frame rates are not good enough for solid 120fps. indoors its fine but outside u can really notice the drops. big question is whether or not adding another card will work with this game.. lots of us having been waiting years for this release

I ran D3 Beta on my 6950 on Eyefinity capping 60FPS (vSync) at all times with max settings. Just an idea on how little power it takes to run that game. I ran well over 100 FPS at all times with a single 1920x1080 display but the screen was tearing way too much, so I needed VSync for the game to be playable.

Neither Crossfire nor SLI are supported for Diablo 3:

http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/D3supportedvideo

I am running 3 7970's in Eyefinity and can tell you first hand that

1.) Only my first card is used. All others remain at 0 percent usage
2.) You will never need more than one card for this game. smile.gif

I still don't understand the wisdom of NOT supporting SLI or Crossfire. Multiple cards are much more prevalent now and not supporting them will just cause issues. Sure you can disable this, but should you have to? I don't think so.

Best of luck my friend and enjoy the game...it's pretty darned fun!

I would agree with you.. but as I play diablo 3 I'm noticing the game hasn't changed much from the first 2 versions, the story and graphics are all that changed. everything else is the same, so dual or triple cards would just be a waste.. lol.

It works on Crossfire 7970. Although I'm not sure why you would need more than one 7970 to run it at >60 FPS
