Stable Bulldozer overclocking

Thread Starter
Hi I'm new here,

My RIG:

FX-8120
M5A88-m (on-board video_
16GB corsair 1600mhz
90GB Corsair force sata3 SSD
Corsair H80

I'm looking for the best Stable OC setting for my 8120. I want it for 3d rendering and video.

Right now I'm at 4ghz.... 20 x 200.

CPU vcore 1.3500
NB 1.275
dram 1.410

Any suggestions for a higher stable OC?

Thanks,

CPU temp 35.5c under full load. (AMD Overdrive)

OCing on that board is not recommended at all. My FX-4100 would get the 4+1 VRMs (with VRM heatsink) in my 970 Extreme 3 hot enough to go into thermal throttling. Your board is 4+1 but w/o a heatsink, Id surmise that if you OC an FX-8120 on that board and do 100% full load for more than a few hours it will either...

A) throttle down to really slow speeds

B) catch on fire

Thanks,

So a new mobo is needed.

Any suggestions?

I don't need crossfire, in fact I use on-board video.

Thanks,
Almost anything with onboard video is unsuitable for overclocking.

I would recommend something full ATX size paired with a 5450-5670 video card(seeing as video performance is unimportant)

The following link is to a better Asus board on Newegg. It has more robust power control for the processor with a heatsink.

This next link is for an inexpensive Asus branded video card at Newegg as well.

forgot the HSF if you dont already have one. this one blows down onto the board (dont know size restrictions etc, this seems to be mid sized as far as height.)

Seems the Sabertooth is the way to go?

But, I wonder.... if a 25% STABLE OC that can run for days is not doable then I doubt it's worth it.

Has anybody got a n FX running at 4-5Ghz permanently stable?

To digress to a moment,

I've run the numbers and since I had an AM3+ rig the best choice seemed to go with the 8120 for $180.

A 2600k setup would have cost me $440, and that for another 20% performance at stock.

Damn looks like I'm talking myself into staying with AM3+ and upgrading some parts like mobo.

Sure hope AMD has a decent upgrade path for AM3+

Like 12 or 16 core?

I had an FX-4100 at 4.6 24/7 stable with C&Q enabled.

I wouldnt say the sabertooth is the best as far as price / performance.

I'd say the Sabertooth is a fantastic board..I've had one..Sold it shortly after bd release cuz i was mad @
AMD.With an FX chip..you're looking @ anywhere from 4.3-5.0 stable 24/7 OC.Erm..I'm not a fan of first-release FX chips tongue.gif.I like da Zosma,though.Anyway Sabertooth is a really good board,So is the m4a89gtd-pro wink.gif

Check out this thread..all i know is..It's a pita to get the ram right on fx(or was for me)
