Yeah, you can't call a card mid-range when it is the best performing card. You can call it mid range once it actually becomes mid-range...

I hope we get a massive slew of GPU hungry games soon!

Not sure why people are still calling this midrange. I would not be surprised if NVIDIA/AMD has "stepped" down cards in the past because something isn't working right. We just knew about it this time, but it doesn't change the fact this card is now the flagship. To my knowledge there's not even proof the GK110/GK112 are still being worked on. I heard NVIDIA may have scraped them completely, but couldn't find proof.

This is the flagship/high-end NVIDIA card for 2012. There may be a "refresh" very late into this year, but this card will remain NVIDIA's single GPU flagship for quite some time. There also may be a 2x GK104 release later this year, if you are into dual GPU setups.

So I agree, people need to stop saying this part is midrange. It may have been intended for midrange a couple months ago, but if it's competing with (or beating) high end and priced at high end.. that makes it high end. If people can't accept this card as high end just because it was originally planned for midrange, then they shouldn't buy it. I personally think that's a terrible excuse for not buying a card. How is handles itself is all that matters, not what it was originally intended as.

8800GTX days Its was rewarding having bought a $550 GPU. Now not so much. Other then BF3 there are not much game out there worth GPU power. Metro is one but thats just SP.

Sadly I don't think we'll be getting games that require these GPU's until the new Consoles come out. By then the cards probably will be in the >$350 range

Unfortunately no matter how you slice and dice it, GTX680 is still a midrange product being sold at high end prices. And Nvidia is not about to make a fool out of me.... I will wait to see what happens after launch...

If you were interested in a Lamborghini Diablo but it was actually a Fiat Panda which was dressed up with Diablo name and sold at Diablo prices, would you still buy it? Hell no you wouldn't lol

Here is a leaked post from one of our very own OCN members who's had the pleasure of working on a pre-released GTX 680 for the last five weeks. Taken from another club thread and thought I'd share this here since it's regarding the GTX 680.

The positioning of a product in a market is determined quite largely by its performance. In other words, performance and price are linked directly. Performance dictates its positioning, price and the naming. A product comes along and its peformance trumps a compeitor's high end product (HD7970). As such, it is positioned as a high end product with price and naming reflecting this.

If a Panda comes along with a performance surpassing that of a Diablo, then that Fiat can be justified to sell at Diablo price.

I'm well aware of that, but doesn't alter the fact your being over charged for something that is a sheep in wolfs clothing. Not knowing about GK104's original origins may have been a better move from a sales standpoint, but as it was widely known about it's original placement as a midrange model i'm not sure many will jump on it. Most people are now looking ahead for GK110 instead and see GK104 as an introduction to Kepler rather than a behemoth high end product they were expecting all these months.
