Why are they calling this their GTX 680 part? It's only got 256-bit memory interface while last generation had 384-bit. I'm guessing they wanted GK104 to be the midrange unit but because of the performance they got with it, they could release it now and make everyone think it's their top of the line to only release another one later. Brilliant!

No, but really, $550 for a video card. This is what we've all been waiting for? YUCK

Looks good. Reasonable balance of power and performance. I don't think a faster card will be out any time soon. At a 195 watt tdp, and given already existing yield issues a card that is 50% faster seems highly unlikely. Nvidia might do well this time around. I have to wonder though, how will the general computer performance compare? The gtx 5 series stripped a lot of features to improve gaming performance, at a glance it looks like the 6 series did the same.

Looks like it should be on par with a 590 with both cards on stock settings. Not sure how I should feel. Slight edge over the 7970 but 3 months late.

And to think this is a mid range card, heh.

You don't understand.. when people say it's a midrange card, they mean its not a fully enabled Kepler. The full Kepler (aka "high end") won't be released until Q3/Q4 due to yield problems (or other issues). This "midrange" card is being sold at high end price because it competes with the 7970 in terms of performance. When the full Kepler is released, this card will be pushed down into the midrange price point and the full Kepler will take over the high end price point.

The TDP alone speaks for itself. Not everything is about sheer performance, efficiency matters too. If they are able to put a card out that is even 10% faster than the 7970, but uses 30% less power.. that's pretty amazing for 3 months in my opinion. It gives them major headroom for cranking out the 7XX series and making them incredibly faster than anything on the market.

I don't suspect we will see the 7XX series (aka the "real" kepler) until very late this year, or early next year.
