[ITW] Toshiba to launch SD memory cards with 90MBs write speeds this year

The Japanese company's new Exceria SD cards will initially go on sale in Japan at five times the price of existing cards.

Toshiba will launch high-speed SD memory cards this year in Japan and abroad that can read data at up to 95MB per second and write at 90MB per second.

The Japanese company will launch the cards under a new brand, "Exceria," which will initially be sold in three different configurations. The fastest type will go on sale in Japan from July, at a cost of ¥15,000 (US$180) for 32GB of storage. Models with slower write speeds will go on sale from April.

Toshiba is FAIL!

That's far beyond stupid, it's idiotic, like these things cost more than a SSD, get real!

You pay for speed, that's all there is to it. For whatever reason, if you want speed then this is the card for you.

I'm still waiting for that 2TB micro SDXC card. biggrin.gif

Are you kidding me? If you have a DSLR which can fill a 32GB card with not many pictures, you'd understand that this is very useful. Even at these speeds, were talking about 10 minutes to transfer all the data on it. If you have a slower card and will be taking pictures all day and transfering them on a laptop in the process (say, you're the photograph for a hockey tournament), well 10+ minutes is the time it takes to "fix" the ice. If it takes 20+ minutes, you lost 10 minutes of that 50 minutes game which is 20% less pictures taken. BTW, if you can't make the link, that's probably 20% less photo sold to customers and that's 20% less money for you. Well worth it for anyone who can actually use it because that's not a product intended for use with a cheap camera or smartphone. Also, 180$ is a tiny amount of money compared to equipment that's worth more than five grands.

Tablet PC. Think about it.

There is absolutely no counter argument to this... I was thinking exactly what if you needed SSD speeds in a tablet.

Hit the nail on the head. Pro photogs who shoot events such as sports for outlets with very tight deadlines are the main market for something like this. Its not for your average photographer.

EDIT: Of course, most pro gear uses CF, but some do have the option for SD as well. In any case, point still stands.
