[hkepc] Brand new 'Kepler' Micro-architecture-review of GTX680 - Page 13

Frosty that guy must have different drivers then me cause his stock 7970 is blowing away my OC'd 7970. I'm not talking about combined score either I'm just talking graphics.

Why show benchmark scores on overclocked settings...you really can't make a comparison like that.

In your logic it's sad that oc'd Intel i7 920 beats stock 2500K rolleyes.gif. GTX 680 can still be overclocked you know. Rumours from China say that 1,4GHz on air is possible with 680.

That would be a down right stupid business decision. You want it to perform well on paper, and by paper I mean stock. The general public who doesn't know a thing about OCing is going to make a decision based on out-of-box performance.

Are you going to use your full arsenal to take an enemy down when one bullet will do the job? It's why the GK100 is still in NV's arsenal.

In all seriousness though, If these are accurate then this is a huge win for all of us (except the part about price, but hey AMD decided to abandon their sweet spot pricing).

Nvidia getting rid of their problems with power consumption and producing a card that outpaces the 7970 with a smaller die is great. More competition and better cards for everyone. Though I'd still be kind of vary of buying one these, for some reason I get a feeling that 28nm prices are way inflated at the moment. And I would like to see the part with the 550mm^2 die instead of this mainstream 300mm^2 die. Will be a beast!

I have a feeling that GK100 never materialized either due to yield issues or because the TDP was too high. As much as people don't want to admit it here, GK104 IS THE FLAGSHIP CARD! Until nvidia decides otherwise, that's not going to change.

No need to release a card that would absolutely destroy the market. It's all about profits. If you can release a midrange card that costs less to manufacture than the high end card, that also performs better than your competitor's top range card, why bother with an even better card? Save it for when your competitor releases a faster card..

No what I'm saying is that this is not anywhere near what it was hyped up to be. 10% at best when we were told 50%+. You can spin it anyway you want but it's not nearly what everyone expected three months ago.

I foresee this part being repackaged as a 760 Ti (or something similar) come Q4 when the big boys arrive and being sold for $200-$300 less. It's a matter of patience, for me, which is something I usually have in short supply. tongue.gif And yes, the recurring anti-nVidia sentiments are becoming fairly agitating.

This card may not be the launch we had expected in the time frame we desired, but it is no failure. (28nm yields, however, are a failure - for both teams)
