Supra-Aural Gaming Headsets

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a new supra-aural gaming headset, as the title indicates. I initially had my heart set on a wireless one, but the best I could find was the H760 and I doubt the sound quality would be any better than my current headset.

Right now I have the Logitech Premium Notebook USB Headset:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104024
It has since been replaced by the H555 in their product stack. This unit has decent lows but muddled everything else, in my opinion, and the mic is becoming unreliable, so I'm looking for a replacement.

As far as wired ones go, I did find the Corsair Vengeance 1100.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826816003

Any opinions on this unit or other supra-aural headsets (It's imperative that it is a headset and that it is supra-aural - I do not want an over-the-head headset or a separate microphone and headphones) would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Yoshi

I used the logitechs that you have in the past and recently tried out the logitech g330

I liked the g330's sound quality, but just ended up deciding that the behind-the-neck setup was just not my cup of tea. I will admit thought that there is a lack of choices when it comes to this type of headset. I would recommend going with the corsairs or trying out the g330s.

I forgot to mention that I bought the G330s for my girlfriend. She loves them, but the way the ear-pieces and bracket are designed hurts my ears after wearing them for a few minutes. They do sound great for gaming, though.

Thanks for your input smile.gif

Audiophile grade Supra-Aural headsets are close to none. I wonder why no manufacture has decided to make a quality Supra-Aural headset. thinking.gif

Now that is a good question. They must think people like headset-hair wink.gif

Yeah, that may be the only explanation.

There were times I wanted to load BF3 and get a round or two of team deathmatch while my girlfriend spends 1-2hrs choosing what to wear and putting makeup on. I ended up watching the history channel and falling half asleep.

Got the new headset in today. It looks sharp, it sounds fairly decent, but these are the most uncomfortable things I've ever put on my ears. I can only last 5-10 minutes before having to wriggle them around. It's compounded by the fact that I wear glasses. The lack of adjustability mars what would have been an intriguing headset. You cannot adjust the ear pieces, the length of the support bar, or any aspect of the headset except the mic.

It shouldn't be this hard to find quality supra-aural headsets... I might cave in and try the H760, as I'm intrigued by the wireless design. I'll give the 1100s a shot for a few days, but chances are they're going back.

I missed this earlier, but actually Beyerdynamic does make an MMX 2, which comes with cheap USB sound card you can use if you want, for around $80. It's based on the DT235 (or similar), which is a pretty decent $50 supraaural closed (well, "closed") headphone. These are more comfortable than typical for this kind of headphone, and the sound is surprisingly alright, kind of audiophile grade really. I've used the DT 235 but not the MMX 2, so I don't know about its microphone.

Like most sets of the type, sound quality is going to depend on the fitting on the ears, particularly the bass. Also as is typical, they don't handle very high volumes very well.

http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/BeyerdynamicDT235.pdf

edit: wait, I seem to have skimmed the OP. The above are supraaural but not around the neck. I'd honestly also consider IEMs with inline microphones, because around-the-neck supraaural headsets of good quality might well be nonexistent.

I just ordered the H760. If it's comfy and the sound quality matches my current headset, I'll keep it, otherwise it's going back tongue.gif
