As there is no competition from AMD in this section (Quad channel ram, etc) then they can do as they please as they are the only option in that regard. Well ok - there is G34 socket from AMD but its strictly for servers and as a result the "OC" you can get on these is not really worth mentioning.

Ya I don't care about Z77 and IB... lack of PCIE lanes and truly it is just a refresh of Z68.... open your eyes wink.gif

I will be amazed if a IB CPU is faster then the 3960X... why would Intel make a $300 CPU that is faster then the $1000 CPU... again they would shot themselves in the foot.

For the general user... the IB $300 CPU is just fine and will do great in gaming... the 3960x will be little to no gain. Just doesn't apply for everyone wink.gif

Everybody calm down. Up until RIGHT before the launch of SNB-E, the roadmaps just said ">=990X" and it made it seem like that there would be no SNB-E in 2011. But there was...so relax smile.gif

Yea I tend to use more threads than the average OCN user though. I do a lot of programming, and the more threads I have the faster my compile times are. And when I'm not programming I'm folding, which always benefits from more threads. But I won't pay double for a CPU for a couple of extra cores, so chances are I may end up with the $300 CPU anyway.

this is probably the best compromise price wise it is on par with i7 2600k
but isnt unlocked!witch isnt a biggy if you would air cool anyway!
cause i would use a k serie only if you plan to watercool!

319$isnt bad.but i agree the higher step are very pricy indeed ,600 $ for the next step up?outch?`
i agree that in the end all e solution are pricier then the predecessor!since they dont supply cooling !wich will add from 30$ to 100$ depending on cooling you chose!

It's alright if I have to wait till 2013 because this 3930k is still more than enough and when compared to the 1155 Ivy... ... ................. yeah.
I'm still sure anyone with the 3930k or 3960x is feeling the same unless they're a die hard enthusiast. smile.gif

Quite a few of the boards have a PLX PEX 8747 bridge chip that allows for greater bandwidth allowing four PCI-E 3.0 lanes to run at 8x which is also the equivalent of X79 if memory serves me right. Why anyone would currently need that kind of bandwidth with PCI-E 3.0 lanes is beyond me.

Also, assuming the Lucid MVP program works correctly with Z77 (which I myself doubt), then there would be massive incentive for gamers to purchase a Z77 board for the 30-70% FPS increase.

Ivy Bridge on 1155 sounds like it will be faster than 2011 core per core; however, it will still be lacking the two additional cores that 2011 has.

This is why even Intel fanboys should be praying that AMD picks up the pace, because as it stands Intel has almost no competition from them, and no reason to release new products that compete with their own existing products.

Do you really think saying words to myself is going to change what AMD or Intel are going to do? kookoo.gif
